Developing future talent through real-world research: Master Thesis Program.

Developing future talent through real-world research: Master Thesis Program. Innovation often begins with curiosity, experimentation, and a willingness to tackle difficult problems. Through Vantor's partnership with Linköping University in Sweden, master's students have the opportunity to apply academic research to real-world challenges while contributing to technologies that may shape future products and capabilities. This year, Mikael Lundgren and Edvard Wetind joined Vantor's Linköping office to complete a thesis project focused on geolocalization from low-altitude imagery. Working with Gustav Tapper, Manager, Software Development, and Gustav Häger, as supervisor, the students explored machine learning approaches for determining the position of a drone using forward-facing camera imagery captured near ground level. The project was closely tied to the Raptor program and addressed a complex challenge: helping autonomous systems determine their location without relying on predefined starting coordinates. The team's work evaluated whether machine learning could provide an initial position and orientation estimate for drones operating in environments where traditional positioning methods may be limited. The results proved promising. The students brought positive energy, curiosity, and an effective approach to problem-solving throughout the project. Their work demonstrated the potential for future applications that could help autonomous systems operate more independently across large geographic areas. Mikael Lundgren Mikael Lundgren. Mikael is pursuing a Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering at Linköping University. He was initially drawn to the opportunity because of its focus on computer vision, machine learning, autonomous systems, and the chance to work on a challenge with real-world applications. One of the most rewarding aspects of the experience was seeing the project evolve from an uncertain research question into a solution that demonstrated meaningful potential. "The most exciting thing we achieved was the optimistic outlook our supervisor had when he first got to see our results," Mikael said. "As the project went on, it seemed more and more plausible that it could result in some exciting new technology." Outside of engineering, Mikael is a longtime fan of sumo wrestling. While studying abroad in Tokyo, he joined Keio University's sumo club and even competed in amateur tournaments. Edvard Wetind. Edvard, also pursuing a Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering at Linköping University, was attracted to Vantor because of its reputation for meaningful thesis projects and strong collaboration with the university. For Edvard, one of the most valuable aspects of the experience was becoming part of the local team and learning directly from experienced engineers and researchers. "It was fun to integrate into the team and learn from coworkers," Edvard said. "Being able to discuss the research field with experienced colleagues and immediately apply that knowledge to the thesis made the experience especially rewarding." The experience also opened the door to the next stage of his career. Following graduation, Edvard will continue his journey with Vantor as a full-time employee. Building the future through partnership. Partnerships between industry and academia create opportunities for students to contribute to meaningful research while helping organizations explore emerging technologies and future capabilities. For Vantor, the Master Thesis Program provides access to fresh perspectives and innovative thinking. For students like Mikael and Edvard, it offers the opportunity to apply years of academic study to real-world challenges while contributing to research that may influence future technologies. Their work demonstrates how collaboration, research, and emerging talent can help drive innovation forward. Turn research into real-world impact. Achieve total clarity from space to ground. See how Vantor can help you take advantage of the most advanced spatial intelligence for unparalleled insight into its dynamic world and to power your autonomous systems across space, air, and ground.

Vantor launches WorldView 3D satellite tasking for up-to-date 3D ground truth mapping

Vantor, a spatial intelligence provider, has launched WorldView 3D, a satellite tasking product that delivers updated 3D terrain maps for military and intelligence operations anywhere on Earth. The service enables customers to obtain current 3D data within 24 hours of image collection, often within six hours. The product addresses the challenge of rapidly changing terrain due to conflict, natural disasters and urban development, which traditional 3D mapping cycles struggle to capture. WorldView 3D offers two options: Rapid 3D, providing 50-centimetre resolution within 24 hours, and High-definition 3D, delivering 15-centimetre resolution for missions requiring greater detail. The service integrates Vantor's satellite constellation and AI-powered production software, supporting applications from GPS-denied autonomy to real-time mapping and tactical operations.

BAE Systems teams with Vantor to build high-resolution imagery satellites.

BAE Systems teams with Vantor to build high-resolution imagery satellites. 25 June 2026 BAE Systems (LON: BA) announced today that it has entered into an agreement to build high-resolution imaging satellite buses for Vantor, a leading provider of unified spatial intelligence from space to ground. BAE Systems will build the spacecraft for the next-generation Vantor Vantage(TM) 20 cm-class imaging satellites from the Evolve(TM) spacecraft line, for use with national defense and intelligence programs. BAE Systems will also lead spacecraft integration and testing for the program. "We are entering a new era of imaging satellite production that is based on a long and successful history of delivering space vehicles for Vantor programs," said Brad Shogrin, vice president and general manager of National Space for BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems. "The Vantage imaging satellites will provide essential data for critical intelligence programs, and we look forward to growing our partnership as we advance to the production phase of these next-generation space vehicles. Vantor features world-class capabilities, and we are excited to once again partner with them on these advanced systems." Vantage satellites are designed to collect the most accurate, highest-resolution commercial imagery on orbit. They will integrate advanced technologies designed to increase imagery collection, reduce latency and deliver mission-critical intelligence from space. BAE Systems and Vantor share a successful history of collaboration spanning several multi-satellite intelligence programs, including two Quickbird and three WorldView(TM) satellites. "As demand accelerates for more responsive space-based intelligence, we're investing in expanding our constellation capabilities to strengthen the spatial foundation that represents our living digital twin of Earth," said Matt Jenkins, chief space systems officer at Vantor. "Vantage represents the next generation of exquisite imaging from space, and BAE Systems' proven track record of manufacturing excellence, mission execution, and deep experience supporting world-class imaging programs makes them the right partner to help us build what will be the most capable commercial imaging satellites on orbit." The companies will continue to research future collaboration on satellite constellation design and production to advance national defense and intelligence capabilities. Vantor partners with BAE Systems to build 20 cm-class Vantage imaging satellites

Vantor has partnered with BAE Systems to manufacture its next-generation Vantor Vantage imaging satellites, which will offer 20-centimetre resolution and are expected to begin operations before the end of the decade. BAE Systems was selected based on its spacecraft development expertise and existing partnership supporting Vantor's constellation. The Vantage satellites will deliver the highest-resolution commercial imagery on orbit, with advanced technologies designed to reduce latency and deliver intelligence in the low single-digit minutes. They will complement Vantor's Pulse satellites—a fleet of 40-centimetre-class satellites—creating the first commercial space system combining high-resolution imaging with persistent, real-time global monitoring. The expanded constellation will enhance Vantor's Tensorglobe spatial intelligence platform, which automates tasking through AI-powered analysis for defence, intelligence and commercial applications.
