Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • A Certified Dermatology Technician, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Knowledge of infectious control, HIPAA, and OSHA is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are required to communicate professionally with patients, family members, physicians, health care providers, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities are required to ensure patient needs are met.
  • Strong computer skills are required to input and retrieve clinical information.
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment are required when performing tasks.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to multitask are required.
  • The ability to prioritize daily assignments to maintain smooth workflow is required.
Responsibilities
  • Open sterile supplies and set up for each procedure.
  • Perform medical-assisting duties, including taking vital signs, measuring height and weight, and assisting during excisions and Mohs surgical procedures.
  • Keep patient-care areas clean, organized, stocked, and ready for use.
  • Assist and anticipate the Mohs surgeon's needs during procedures according to prescribed standards.
  • Dose and mix medications, including buffered lidocaine, Kenalog, sclerotherapy preparations, and Botox for cosmetic and hyperhidrosis uses.
  • Set up procedure rooms according to prescribed standards.
  • Provide hands-on assistance and instruments to the Mohs surgeon throughout procedures.
  • Take appropriate photographs of Mohs stages and label and organize the photographs.
  • Perform point-of-care testing, laboratory tests, and specimen collection.
  • Apply quality-control standards to maintain the functioning and accuracy of testing equipment.
  • Provide patients with instructions for specific tests and procedures.
  • Sterilize and package instruments.
  • Disinfect, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies using aseptic and sterile techniques and universal precautions.
  • Maintain procedure rooms, including case preparation, room turnover, and instrument processing.
  • Communicate with patients, teammates, and the general public by phone and in person.
  • Document information in the electronic medical record as needed.
  • Assist with equipment and supply inventory and storage.
  • Perform medical-assistant duties for non-Mohs patients as needed.
  • Perform subcutaneous and intramuscular medication injections when competency is demonstrated and supervisory agreement is in place.
  • Complete OSHA daily and monthly checks and maintain the OSHA log.
  • Complete suture inventory and check rooms for expiring inventory.
  • Record and maintain the pathology logbook so pathology reports are properly documented.
  • Provide cross-coverage when needed, including coverage for clinician vacations, sick calls, and paid time off.
  • Travel to regional practice locations to provide clinical coverage when needed.
  • Complete assigned training, including Code of Conduct, Privacy and Data Security, and OSHA training.
  • Follow applicable policies, procedures, industry standards, laws, and regulations, including privacy, data protection, workplace safety, and reporting requirements.

  • Two years of experience in an outpatient surgery center, Mohs dermatology practice, or office-based surgery department.
