Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Handle sensitive and confidential matters and information with appropriate discretion and judgment, answer questions, and escalate complex questions.
  • Provide direct support to supervisors and employees on staff and labor relations matters, enter transactions, and assist with contract language questions.
  • Assist with recruitment by guiding hiring managers toward a well-qualified and diverse pool of candidates.
  • Screen and recommend applicants as needed for identified positions.
  • Review staff position descriptions and assist managers and supervisors with writing descriptions for new positions, reclassifications, and reorganizations.
  • Provide accurate and compliant interpretation and application of human resource programs, policies, procedures, and collective bargaining contracts.
  • Provide data reporting to support business decisions, prepare spreadsheets and graphs, and draft presentations.
  • Initiate and troubleshoot human resources transactions, ensure actions are timely, complete, and accurate, and ensure compliance with required processes, procedures, policies, contracts, and laws.
  • Answer Workday-related questions and enter non-academic and academic transactions as assigned.
  • Handle disability, family medical leave, workers' compensation, and other leave cases; track staff leaves and ensure required paperwork is on file; assist with simple leave cases.
  • Handle straightforward visa sponsorship matters.
  • Manage employee recognition programs or coordinate trainings as assigned.
  • Enter student employment and graduate appointment transactions into the human resources system, resolve issues, and enter student employment salaries.
  • Enter salary-increase-program override transactions into the human resources system.
  • Enter layoff transactions and assist managers and supervisors with related paperwork.
  • Review time tracking and make necessary adjustments, and review hourly accrual usage based on full-time-equivalent status and years of service.
  • Interpret human resources policy, act as a liaison for employees with Library Human Resources, University Human Resources, Student Employment, Payroll, and subject matter experts.
  • Initiate a broad range of Workday business transactions supporting employment-related changes for non-student employees.
  • Manage student employment operations for more than 20 library, press, department, and unit groups.
  • Manage payroll for hourly students and staff totaling nearly 500 employees.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Support training and work-location compliance.
  • Perform payroll and time-tracking activities.
