Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in systems engineering.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics, power distribution system architecture, power generation components for microgrids including fuel cells, gensets, and solar arrays, energy storage systems including high-voltage batteries, and controls software architecture.
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear recommendations and guidelines to stakeholders, technical development teams, and testing teams.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • Experience in product risk assessment and risk mitigation.
  • Knowledge of reliability and safety.
  • Background in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis.
  • Experience with requirements management tools including Jama, DOORS, Cameo, Jira, or similar tools.
  • Authorization to work for any employer in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Integrate market and product strategy into technology and systems architecture, component and system requirements, and development strategy plans for new technology and product development applicable to renewable energy, microgrid, electric vehicle charging, and data center markets.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop hardware and controls software integration requirements.
  • Leverage a simulation and analysis-led design ecosystem to drive technology decisions.
  • Commission and leverage system-level performance simulations to drive technology and future product decisions and optimize system performance and efficiency.
  • Lead development of Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis processes for product and technology functions at the system and component levels.
  • Commission and collaborate with testing teams to verify and validate component and system performance and functionality.
  • Support research and development activities and verification activities according to requirements, both on the bench and in test-cell facilities.
  • Conduct top-down functional analysis and create detailed requirements, performance design criteria, architecture diagrams, logical diagrams, and specifications.
  • Lead development of the risk registry, risk management, and risk mitigation plan.
  • Assess technology readiness levels for key technologies and critical elements.
  • Assess the project path to target against key requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with power converter certifications such as UL1741, IEEE1547, CSA C22.2, VDE DIN-AR-4105, AS/NZS 4777, and G98 EN50549.
  • Experience with battery energy storage system certifications such as UL1973, UL1642, IEC62619, UL9540, and UL9540A.
  • Experience with switchboard certifications such as UL891.
  • Product safety experience related to risk assessments, safety standards, and regulations.
  • Experience with CSA and CE standards.
  • Model-based systems engineering experience using SysML, MathWorks tools, or similar tools.
  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt.
  • Experience with risk registers, risk mitigation, and technology readiness level assessment.
  • Background in power electronic reliability, safety, and cybersecurity.
