Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least three years of experience in health care is preferred.
  • The candidate must have at least one year of experience with surgery scheduling procedures preferred.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently and function within a team.
  • The candidate must have basic knowledge of surgery scheduling, receptionist, and registration responsibilities.
  • The candidate must be able to handle stress.
  • The candidate must be flexible with hours and able to work whichever shift needs coverage.
Responsibilities
  • Provide facility support by performing assigned business office functions, including medical records, credentialing, admissions and intake, accounts payable, billing, collections, insurance verification, transactions, posting, and clinical logs.
  • Schedule surgeries in the computer surgery template with pertinent information and handle calls from physician offices regarding patient scheduling, surgery scheduling, and related matters.
  • Answer phones, address physician-office and patient needs, take messages, and transfer calls to other departments when necessary.
  • Perform pre-registration and ensure authorization is obtained from the physician’s office before scheduled surgery.
  • Complete registration paperwork and use the computer system to generate information for surgical and special procedures.
  • Maintain a log of cancelled appointments.
  • Perform clerical duties including photocopying forms and reports, mailing surveys, preparing patient charts, faxing forms, and retrieving faxes.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly surgery-scheduling area.
  • Verify all scheduled cases as soon as possible.
  • Contact patients with financial responsibility, explain the center’s payment policies, and offer payment options when necessary.
  • Clearly document insurance verification and patient calls in the patient’s account.
