Requirements
  • Typically an advanced degree and experience: a PhD degree with about 15 years of experience, an MS degree with 17 years of experience, or a BS degree with about 21 years of experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q security clearance; an active clearance is not initially required.
  • A BS degree in Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Registered Professional Engineer licensure in any state is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with providing overall engineering and design direction, leadership, and management for assigned projects and tasks.
  • Experience with integrating engineering resources by establishing design criteria, resource forecasts, schedules, and engineering tools for engineering tasks.
  • Experience providing administrative guidance to leads and managers.
  • Experience managing the administration, document control, project controls, and quality engineering sections through section supervisors.
  • Experience resolving conflicts between project direction and technical direction from functional managers.
  • Experience participating in department and site-wide programmatic issue resolution and quality improvements.
  • Experience creating teams by requesting, evaluating, and developing engineering expertise capable of achieving assigned project objectives.
  • Experience evaluating subcontractor tasks to ensure design output meets technical, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Experience establishing baselines for design activities and engineering work requests.
  • Experience recommending subcontractor authorizations for new work and baseline changes to project managers.
  • Experience evaluating project cost and schedule variances and implementing corrective actions.
  • Experience with earned value management system tools.
  • Experience reviewing cost accounts for procurement of engineered materials.
  • Experience establishing project scope of work and ensuring firm customer requirements are developed.
Responsibilities
  • Initiate technical programs and make recommendations to management based on customer-needs and technology-trend analysis.
  • Resolve complex technical problems in areas of expertise and influence solutions in neighboring disciplines.
  • Apply technical experience across specialized or multiple technical fields and use internal and external technical resources to resolve complex problems.
  • Incorporate complex technical requirements, new or special materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
  • Provide technical leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and influence technical direction across the department.
  • Recommend and assist in planning research, development, testing, and quality-assurance programs.
  • Prepare plans, schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for major technical tasks.
  • Develop schedules, monitor progress and budget expenditures, and review the quality of completed work.
  • Communicate results verbally and in manuscript form.
  • Report results regularly and represent SRNS and the Savannah River Site in technical areas to oversight groups and professional societies.
  • Mentor less senior professionals in communication skills and technical knowledge.
  • Contribute reports, presentations, and participation in national technical organizations to support site missions and goals.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Total Quality concepts through leadership of Division and Department Total Quality initiatives.
  • Provide staff augmentation support to SRNS.
  • Integrate and manage engineering activities for assigned projects by assisting with design criteria, resource forecasts, schedules, and priorities.
  • Provide project-management tools and methods to assigned projects and support development of future projects.
  • Manage project tasks and deliver results for task cost and schedule.
  • Use SRNS processes and procedures to provide engineering services.
  • Evaluate project cost and schedule variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Work with diverse teams to deliver project results.
Desired Qualifications
  • Candidates who have possessed an active Department of Energy L or Q clearance within the past two years are preferred.
  • Registered Professional Engineer licensure in any state is strongly preferred.
