Responsibilities
  • Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist
  • Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients or family members, obtains necessary consents, and provides exam education
  • Performs complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age-appropriate standards of practice
  • Integrates diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt exam as necessary; adheres to CT protocols to maintain high quality ultrasound standards
  • Maintains proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines; keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies
  • Evaluates CT scans for technical quality, collates processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately labels; film/transmit to PACS; reports unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate Radiologist/Supervisory personnel
  • Performs basic nursing functions in the patient’s care; assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures; initiates life support measures for patients if necessary; assists in Code Blue procedures during medical emergencies; performs CPR as needed
  • Assists radiologists and PhDs in developing new protocols and CAT Scan imaging techniques that are unique to facility
  • Obtains patient history, explains procedures, and addresses patient concerns; verifies patients’ ID and obtains necessary consent
  • Maintains and cleans all equipment in accordance with decontamination procedures
  • Assists the radiologist throughout procedures with all the necessary supplies
  • Prepares automatic injector with proper contrast and adjusts all settings and parameters according to procedure requirements and radiologist preference
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets
