Requirements
  • An Information Technology degree or diploma, or equivalent education or work experience, is required.
  • Industry-standard technical certifications are required.
  • At least 5 years of SQL, Oracle, and/or other relational database management system database administration experience is required; healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise relational database management system platforms, including SQL and Oracle, is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Always On Availability Groups, backup and restore strategies, and performance tuning and monitoring is required.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux server administration, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting for database systems, is required.
  • Knowledge of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, including deploying databases in containerized environments, is required.
  • Experience supporting electronic medical record and clinical applications is required.
  • Experience designing or working with clinical datasets or data models is required.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server environments is required.
  • Strategic thinking, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • An ability to adapt to new technologies and practices in database management is required.
  • Technical writing and documentation skills are required.
  • Satisfactory attendance and performance record are required.
Responsibilities
  • Support database design, creation, testing, and maintenance, including database backups, archiving, and storage strategy.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain enterprise relational database management system platforms such as Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server in on-premises and/or cloud environments.
  • Monitor database performance, capacity, and storage growth.
  • Perform backup and recovery activities and disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Implement high-availability solutions, including failover clustering, Always On Availability Groups, and replication.
  • Optimize queries, indexes, and database performance.
  • Manage database security, roles, permissions, and encryption.
  • Identify, report, and manage database security issues, audit trails, and forensics.
  • Install upgrades and patches for applications and associated databases.
  • Support electronic medical record and other clinical application databases.
  • Work closely with clinical application teams during upgrades, patches, and releases.
  • Troubleshoot database-related application issues affecting clinical workflows by identifying root causes and effective solutions.
  • Follow vendor-specific best practices and change-management processes to configure databases to an optimal baseline that advances high availability and integrity.
  • Implement auditing, access controls, and data-protection standards.
  • Participate in security reviews and risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with application analysts, infrastructure teams, and clinicians.
  • Provide on-call support for critical systems in a 24/7 hospital environment.
  • Document database architecture, procedures, and standards.
  • Support reporting, analytics, and data warehouse teams by leveraging data-reporting capabilities to deliver actionable insights.
  • Stay current with emerging database technologies and best practices.
  • Explore opportunities to use artificial intelligence-driven solutions for database optimization.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the departmental strategic plan by aligning database initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Enterprise HIS data warehouses, including MEDITECH, Oracle, and EPIC.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell or other scripting for automation.
  • Knowledge of fault-tolerant architecture design and disaster recovery/business continuity plans.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with artificial intelligence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Business analysis and problem-solving skills.

Halton Healthcare operates three community hospitals in Halton Region, offering 24/7 emergency services, inpatient and outpatient care, maternal and child health, mental health, geriatrics, rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, cardiac rehabilitation, diabetes programs, and ambulatory clinics. It uses the da Vinci robotic system to support advanced surgical procedures introduced in May 2026.
