Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school is required, unless the candidate has verifiable applicable work experience in a patient care setting.
  • Maintain current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Certification.
  • Obtain and maintain within six months of hire a current certification from an approved medical assistant certifying agency, such as the National Healthcareer Association, American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Certification Association, National Center for Competency Testing, National Association for Health Professionals, American Medical Technologists, or American Registry of Medical Assistants.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of assigned patients.
  • Maintain punctual attendance and comply with Orlando Health policies and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
  • Demonstrate awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory and accrediting standards.
Responsibilities
  • Perform patient care under the direction and supervision of a physician or Advanced Practice Provider in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Support patients and family members through effective and professional communication.
  • Collaborate with administrative and operations staff.
  • Gather patient data through interview and observation.
  • Assist patients and families with preparation for examinations.
  • Assist physicians or Advanced Practice Providers during examinations and procedures.
  • Demonstrate competency in practice-defined tasks and skills.
  • Document treatments, procedures, and patient education according to organizational and department policies.
  • Act as a patient liaison by scheduling specialty testing or physician consultations and providing scheduling information.
  • Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using sound clinical judgment.
  • Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under provider direction.
  • Follow organizational policies, procedures, value statements, quality standards, personal and patient safety practices, and infection-control standards.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Indicator activities as assigned.
  • Use supplies efficiently.
  • Assist the business office with reception, scheduling, and patient discharge as needed.
