Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- At least two years of driving experience, including knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance, is required.
- A current valid New York State commercial driver's license with a passenger endorsement is required.
- English language capability is required.
- The candidate must be able to lift or push to assist wheelchair-bound clients when boarding and exiting the bus.
- The candidate must be able to assist frail clients in boarding and exiting the bus.
- The candidate must be willing to perform unrelated tasks at the center as needed.
- The candidate should have a sincere desire to provide compassionate service to seniors.
Responsibilities
- Drive senior citizens and volunteers to and from their homes or apartments to the senior community service center or other locations while ensuring safety procedures are followed.
- Assist frail or handicapped individuals by lifting or pushing wheelchairs.
- Maintain accurate paperwork, including daily pickup logs, mileage, trip counts, fuel and oil receipts, and money received.
- Assist with meal service at centers by setting up and breaking down dining tables and performing kitchen duties, including lifting heavy pots of hot water and taking food trays in and out of the oven for distribution.
- Assist center staff with setting up and participating in recreational and social events as needed.
- Pick up and deliver materials and supplies, including trips to food stores, pharmacies, and the administrative office.
