Boingo Wireless deploys high-speed 5G cellular and Wi-Fi service across MTA LIRR concourse at New York's iconic Pennsylvania Station.

Boingo Wireless deploys high-speed 5G cellular and Wi-Fi service across MTA LIRR concourse at New York's iconic Pennsylvania Station. Provided by Business Wire Jul 22, 2026, 11:00:00 AM * North America's busiest transit hub debuts advanced wireless infrastructure powered by Boingo * New wireless network will include enhanced cellular service alongside Wi-Fi, delivering fast, secure and reliable connectivity throughout Penn Station's main concourse * Penn Station joins major MTA transit hubs - Grand Central Madison, Jamaica Station and Atlantic Terminal - that rely on Boingo's secure, converged network solutions Boingo Wireless, a leading provider of 5G and Wi-Fi connectivity solutions, has deployed a neutral host distributed antenna system (DAS) and Wi-Fi network at Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) Pennsylvania Station (Penn Station), the busiest transit hub in North America. Alongside high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity, the next generation DAS network is designed to deliver enhanced 5G cellular service from Tier One carriers throughout the MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) concourse, providing reliable connectivity for mobile ticketing, the MTA TrainTime app, streaming services, emails, phone calls, text messaging and E911 compliance. High-speed 5G cellular and Wi-Fi service powered by Boingo Wireless supports Penn Station's modernization, providing reliable connectivity for passengers and essential station operations. Penn Station services an estimated 600,000 commuter rail, regional rail and subway passengers on an average weekday. Boingo's wireless connectivity is live in the station's main concourse, with enhancements ongoing. The network upgrade launched as part of the transit hub's major reconstruction and renovation project. The modernization of Penn Station is a commuter-first plan to transform the historic station into a first-class transit hub that better serves passengers with reliable connectivity, real time passenger information systems, additional space, new retail and amenities, and improved accessibility options. Boingo designed, constructed, and manages the converged wireless network, enabling seamless passenger mobile connectivity and connected operations - including security cameras, digital signage, public safety communication and more. "Boingo is proud to support the MTA's goal of seamless connectivity for riders coming in and out of Penn Station. At high-traffic venues like Penn Station, reliable connectivity isn't a luxury - it's essential. Nearly every rider carries a mobile device, and they depend on it for navigation, communication, ticketing and safety. If the network fails, the experience breaks down. That's why fast, secure, and always-on connectivity is critical and why leading transportation authorities choose Boingo to deliver complex, carrier-grade coverage to keep passengers connected and operations running smoothly," said Boingo CEO Mike Finley. Boingo's multi-carrier cellular and Wi-Fi networks keep millions of people connected across New York and New Jersey's busiest transit hubs, airports, stadiums and commercial properties. This extensive regional footprint includes Grand Central Madison, the World Trade Center Oculus and Jamaica Station, as well as major airports like JFK and LaGuardia and iconic sports venues such as Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. With a 25-year legacy of driving innovation, Boingo provides the trusted wireless infrastructure necessary to enhance mobility, power critical operations and create smarter, more connected communities.
