  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Math, or Statistics, or other related subjects.
  • Minimum of 5 years of P&C work experience, preferably in commercial pricing.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 CAS exams.
  • Strong technical skills in pricing and predictive analytics. Attention to detail.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and obtain buy-in from stakeholders. Ability to influence.
  • Strong stakeholder management. Ability to negotiate scope, timelines, and trade-offs.
  • Strong communication skills. Ability to articulate the choice of methodology and the implications of different decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to think laterally. Able to blend expert-based insights with data-based insights. Evaluate the appropriateness of the different methods and models in each situation. Awareness of strengths and limitations of different methodologies.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and support pricing transformation initiatives across commercial insurance (Aviva Business & GCS) that align with overarching CI strategies. Objectives include profitable growth, shifting the mix of business, embedding risk-selection criteria into pricing, and enabling frontline underwriters with state-of-the-art pricing tools and fit-for-purpose design.
  • Lead and support rate reviews for commercial products. Proactively monitor trends, mix of business, and changes in operational practices that affect commercial insurance performance. Effectively communicate the results of the rate reviews to all stakeholders and get buy-in from stakeholders on rate proposals.
  • Help to identify key milestones for projects and accurately forecast the time required to reach those milestones.
  • Build and review predictive models in partnership with Data Science to enhance the accuracy of the pricing algorithms. Drive a balanced approach between technical considerations and business objectives to ensure maximum impact. Be able to demonstrate the value of predictive analytics to non-actuaries.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders at the head office and the field. Identify the needs of our partners and tailor solutions that serve their needs and maximize value for commercial insurance.
  • Build regular monitoring processes. Seek improvement in existing processes and procedures to improve effectiveness and accuracy. Be forward-thinking and adapt models and techniques to changes in business requirements, product, and data structure.
  • Coach junior staff members to develop their technical and personal skills. Act as a role model for the Aviva values and inspire others to follow them.
