Responsibilities
  • Negotiate long-term agreements for series production components.
  • Strategize the purchasing of automotive and industrial components locally and globally with support of the Global Commodity Managers.
  • Plan, organize, track, and disseminate information related to production suppliers.
  • Create/develop new cost reduction ideas YOY using Design for Value (DfV) techniques, VA/VE, Design for Manufacturing (DfM), Design for Assembly (DfA), lean concepts, etc.
  • Meet or exceed metrics developed by corporate goals.
  • Support the global commodity strategy and processes
  • Select suppliers through effective use of proven procurement skills in an automotive or non-automotive environment (market testing, supplier evaluations and risk assessments, etc.)
  • Reduce year over year (YOY) costs through aggressive negotiations, resourcing, market test, Value Analysis, Long Term Agreements (LTA), Business Incentives (BI), Annual Improvement Factor (AIF), as well as supplier bundling and/or dual sourcing
  • Explore and aggressively pursue cost reduction opportunities using cost model tools and bubble charts.
  • Recommend supplier process utilization by interpreting blueprints and evaluating customer needs.
  • Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications
  • Ensure compliance to company guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures during supplier negotiations and contracts award process.
  • Explore available and new technologies in the market and implements best practices related to purchasing activities.
  • Develop new suppliers that meet BW cost, quality and delivery requirements.
  • Prepare and lead RFQ’s for multi-year full production quantities.
  • Evaluate part designs with engineering, quality and suppliers to obtain optimum efficiencies.
  • Participate in purchasing related internal meetings and reports for Sr. management (i.e. cost reduction reports, commodities strategies, cross functional project report outs)
  • Maintain complex spreadsheets containing supply base data, including piece prices breakdown, part weight, volumes, suppliers name, LRP info, etc.
  • Understand and adhere to current health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Communicate and enforce safe work procedures.
  • Understand and adhere to current quality and control policies.
  • Identify and close safety issues (suggestions, inspection and investigation findings) and their corrective actions.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • ERP/MRP experience preferred (SAP a plus)
  • Industry Knowledge Preferred or an understanding of automotive processes and components
  • Engineering background is a plus
  • Practical experience in the procurement of industrial type components or commodities
