Position Summary...
This is not a 3D Modeler or 3D animator role. This position is akin to an Art Director role, leading visual direction and creative strategy for campaigns and GenAI-based asset development. You will direct the work of modelers, not execute the modeling yourself.
Imagine shaping the future of retail content by crafting high-impact, immersive 3D-based visual content that brings Walmart's campaigns to life. As a Sr. 3D Aesthetic & Technical Director, you’ll bridge creativity, GenAI technology, and 3D strategy—guiding the visual direction of campaign work while also leading the integration of GenAI tools across the team.
In this role, you'll bring together deep aesthetic sensibility and technical fluency to deliver high-impact imagery. You'll guide the technical and aesthetic inputs required to produce clean, consistent, and emotionally resonant visuals at scale.
What you'll do...
- Translate business briefs and seasonal creative requests into fully developed 3D-based visual content
- Define the layout, product placement, lighting, environment design, and overall visual tone for each scene
- Work either from a business unit’s style guide or in collaboration with a creative lead, depending on the request
- Create mockups that serve as visual blueprints for 3D vendors—ensuring clarity, fidelity, and creative intent
- Own the creative development of each scene from start to finish, balancing storytelling, accuracy, and scale
- Partner with production teams to ensure final outputs reflect your direction
- Lead the integration of GenAI tools into team workflows, including prompt design, tool testing, and best practice development
- Develop original GenAI-generated inspiration content to help drive ideation and elevate visual inputs to vendors
- Support creative innovation and tooling exploration in partnership with the Head of 3D Creative Technology
Criteria:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an art director/stylist in either an IRL photo studio or a virtual studio environment
- Experience using GenAI tools (e.g., Firefly, Gemini, Midjourney) in a creative or prototyping workflow
- Demonstrated ability to experiment with and adapt emerging creative technologies
- Strong visual taste, with a comfort level blending traditional creative methods with AI-assisted ideation
- Ability to clearly communicate aesthetic and technical expectations to 3D vendors
- High proficiency with Adobe CC and MS Office tools
- Comfortable balancing creative originality with technical scalability
- Strong interpersonal skills, with confidence in presenting visual strategies internally and externally
