Responsibilities
  • Lead the infection prevention and control program; develop, evaluate, and revise evidence-based policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Monitor compliance with standard and transmission-based precautions, hand hygiene, sterilization, and disinfection practices
  • Conduct ongoing disease surveillance and track emerging trends and unusual symptoms; coordinate with public health agencies and local providers
  • Report confirmed communicable diseases to the Pennsylvania Department of Health
  • Design and deliver annual infection prevention training (i.e., bloodborne pathogens, TB, and respirator programs); maintain training documentation and monitor compliance across departments
  • Manage the University Health Services Staff Respiratory Protection Program; conduct N-95 respirator fit testing
  • Advise central processing staff on best practices in sterilization and high-level disinfection
  • Ensure compliance with infection control standards in instrument handling
  • Serve as a clinical resource regarding infection-related concerns; provide consultation on appropriate testing, treatment, and isolation protocols
  • Educate and counsel patients with suspected or confirmed communicable diseases
  • Coordinate with Residence Life to implement isolation protocols and prevent disease spread
  • Maintain documentation and data tracking for infection control activities
  • Provide regular updates on infection trends to university leadership and community partners
  • Work closely with the Community Health Department on public health education, outreach materials, and flu clinic planning
  • Support vaccination programs and other preventative health initiatives
  • Stay up to date on emerging infectious diseases and recommend appropriate response strategies
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN). The BSN is preferred to ensure that the coordinator possesses advanced knowledge, leadership skills, and an educational background necessary to effectively oversee infection control initiatives, support quality improvement, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to protect patient safety and public health.
  • The Infection Control Clinical Coordinator should be a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • This position requires a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience with a preference in infection control or a closely related area.
  • The individual in this role is expected to demonstrate a strong foundation in nursing practice, clinical judgment, and infection prevention principles.
