Requirements
  • A sound knowledge and background in geriatric, rehabilitation, or long-term care nursing, including activation, nursing, and personnel administration.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations; relevant sections of the Health Disciplines Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food and Drugs Act (Canada), Controlled Substances Act (Canada), Health Promotion and Protection Act, Personal Health Protection Act, Coroners Act, Provincial College of Nurses and Standards of Practice, and other pertinent federal, provincial, and municipal statutes influencing nursing home operations and the nursing department.
  • Registration and membership in good standing with the provincial registry.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate nursing and other services for residents within the neighbourhood and with other services within the residence.
  • Lead shift report with members of the health care team, ensuring that all team members are informed of changes in residents' status.
  • Record significant changes in residents' condition and ensure documentation in residents' charts adheres to AgeCare policies and procedures and Provincial College of Nurses and Standards of Practice.
  • Review and process physician orders according to procedure, ensuring orders are implemented as soon as possible.
  • Immediately communicate difficulties in processing physician orders to the Director of Care or Assistant Director of Care.
  • Provide safe, ethical, quality, and resident-centered professional nursing services within the scope of competency.
  • Promote teamwork, workplace health and safety awareness, resident safety, and freedom from harm and injury.
