Requirements
  • A nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an approved Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse program.
  • A current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.
  • Knowledge and experience with PCC are preferred for the role.
  • Maintenance of all required continuing education and licensing, and good standing with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, including technical procedures and policy and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants in accordance with rules, regulations, and guidelines governing the long-term care facility.
  • Ensure nursing personnel comply with facility policies, procedures, job descriptions, and the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
  • Plan shift services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing staff and support personnel.
  • Review and recommend revisions to department policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions.
  • Prepare written and oral reports and recommendations concerning shift activities.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to maintain each resident's total care regimen.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the nursing service quality assurance program.
  • Participate in authorized government facility surveys and inspections as requested.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans and assist with the nursing-services portion of discharge planning.
  • Interpret department policies and procedures for personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents, including completing required records and arranging transportation when necessary.
  • Complete accident and incident reports and chart all related resident incidents.
  • Maintain census reports, charge slips, medical forms, evaluations, studies, and other administrative records.
  • Protect user credentials and resident protected health information, report suspected violations, and report unauthorized attempts to access facility information systems.
  • Complete admission, transfer, discharge, charting, medication, treatment, and care-plan documentation.
  • Receive and transcribe physician orders, maintain resident charts, record diet orders, and report discrepancies to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Prepare and administer physician-ordered medications and treatments after verifying resident identity.
  • Maintain adequate supplies, equipment, floor-stock medications, and accurate narcotic records; report discrepancies.
  • Review medication cards and notify physicians of automatic stop orders before the last dose.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing needs, and recommend personnel actions to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Develop work assignments, provide leadership to assigned nursing personnel, and make daily rounds to monitor work assignments and nursing standards.
  • Report staffing shortages, complaints, grievances, occupational exposures, fraud, and problem areas through established procedures.
  • Ensure nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from approved training programs and that trainees work under licensed-nurse supervision.
  • Receive and give nursing reports at the beginning and end of shifts.
  • Inform personnel about new admissions, prepare rooms, greet and orient residents and families, and make physician rounds as needed.
  • Arrange diagnostic and therapeutic services and consult physicians regarding resident care, treatment, and rehabilitation.
  • Review and implement resident treatment, medication, diet, and care-plan requirements.
  • Monitor prescribed treatments, resident physical and emotional status, seriously ill residents, and residents unable to call for help.
  • Provide or oversee direct nursing care, including catheterization, tube feedings, suction, dressing changes, colostomy and drainage-bag care, blood collection, massages, range-of-motion exercises, and end-of-life care.
  • Obtain specimens, take and record vital signs and blood pressure, and use restraints when necessary under facility procedures.
  • Notify physicians and next of kin about accidents or changes in resident condition.
  • Carry out restorative and rehabilitative programs, including self-help and care activities.
  • Inspect treatment areas and resident care rooms to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Coordinate social and activity programs with nursing-service schedules and address dietary issues with nursing and dietary supervisors.
  • Inform families of resident deaths, contact funeral homes when requested, and ensure post-mortem procedures are followed.
  • Develop, schedule, and conduct in-service training; orient new employees; standardize work methods; and train personnel on blood and body-fluid exposure tasks.
  • Assist with clinical supervision planning for nurse aide trainees and attend required external, facility, continuing-education, and advance-directive training.
  • Monitor safety regulations, hand hygiene, infection-control procedures, fire and disaster drills, personal protective equipment use, and hazardous-material documentation.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary nursing work areas and ensure safe operation and authorized use of nursing equipment.
  • Recommend unit equipment and supply needs and monitor supplies to prevent waste.
  • Review resident care plans, coordinate Minimum Data Set assessments and RAPs/Triggers, and ensure nursing notes and certified nursing assistant care reflect current plans.
  • Provide requested data to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee and report suspected fraud involving false billings, cost reports, or kickbacks.

PACS Group acquires Alaska care facility, plans 150-bed skilled nursing centre by 2028

PACS Group has acquired Ridgeway Senior Living, a post-acute care facility in Anchorage, Alaska, marking its fourth property in the state. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman.
