Surge protection for the busbar with integrated voltage pick-off.

Surge protection for the busbar with integrated voltage pick-off. 2026-03-19 The new FLT-SEC-ZP2-...-SV combined lightning current and surge arrester from Phoenix Contact sets new standards in the protection of meter panels: The low overall width of the surge protection leaves plenty of space for the other components mounted on the busbar. The integrated voltage pick-off for supplying the devices of an intelligent measuring system - such as a smart meter gateway (SMGW) - significantly simplifies setup. Only type 1 surge protective devices (SPDs) with spark gaps are permitted in the main power supply system upstream of the meter. In addition, these SPDs must not cause a continuous operating current due to status indicators, such as LEDs. The spark gap must limit the follow current that occurs after ignition so that the service fuses do not trip. With its purely mechanical status indicator without operating current and its spark gaps without line follow current, the FLT-SEC-ZP2 meets the stringent requirements of VDE-AR-N 4100 for the use of type 1 SPDs in the main power supply system. As a type 1+2+3 combined lightning current and surge arrester, it protects even sensitive electronics in the immediate installation environment. A secure power supply from the non-measured area must be provided for the components of an intelligent measuring system. The FLT-SEC-ZP2...-SV includes two load pick-offs for connecting cables to the RfZ (space for additional applications) and the APZ (termination point meter location). The new FLT-SEC-ZP2-...-SV protective devices are available in four versions, each designed for the TN-S/TT and TN-C supply system configurations and with a peak current value Iimp of 7.5 kA or 12.5 kA.

New safety relay module for potentially explosive areas.

New safety relay module for potentially explosive areas. 2026-03-19 With the new PSR-MC35-EXI safety relay, Phoenix Contact is further expanding its safety portfolio. The product enables safe operation in demanding industrial environments. It was specifically developed for use in zone 2 potentially explosive areas. The device also has IECEx and ATEX approval and therefore meets international safety requirements. The safety relay works reliably under challenging conditions. A coated PCB protects against corrosion. The extended temperature range up to +60°C allows for use in numerous process engineering applications. It is particularly worth noting that the connected equipment may even be used in zone 0 (gas) and zone 20 (dust). The compact design saves space in the control cabinet. By using proven relay technology, the housing width is just 17.5 mm. At the same time, the relay meets safety requirements up to SIL 3 and PL e. For flexible installation requirements, the product is available with either screw or Push-in connection.

Phoenix Contact unveils 500 kW charging cable for North America

Phoenix Contact unveils 500 kW charging cable for North America. The North Rhine-Westphalia-based cable specialist Phoenix Contact has introduced new NACS and CCS Type 1 charging cables for the North American market, designed to enable ultra-fast charging at up to 500 kW. By Daniel Bönnighausen 23.02.2026 - 16:32 Since Tesla made its former Supercharger charging plug available for wider use, now known as NACS or North American Charging Standard, this system has rapidly become the market standard in North America. Since the end of 2023, it has also been certified as the North American automotive standard under the designation SAE J3400. Almost two years ago, Phoenix Contact announced that the first NACS charging cables would be available by the end of 2024, with its product range gradually expanding. However, the company delivered ahead of schedule. As early as summer 2024, the specialist in electromobility charging technology introduced SAE-compliant and UL-certified NACS charging cables for AC currents of 50 and 80 amperes. The company is now expanding its portfolio to include CCS Type 1 and NACS charging cables that support DC fast charging at up to 500 kW. According to Phoenix Contact, the NACS DC charging cables in the CHARX connect professional series feature an ergonomically designed plug with a separate handle, enabling safe and comfortable handling while providing thermal decoupling from heated surfaces. The cables comply with the SAE J3400 and UL 2251 standards. They are rated for 1,000 volts and can deliver charging power of up to 500 kW in Boost Mode and 375 kW continuously. The CCS Type 1 charging cables, designed in the typical Phoenix Contact style, use increased conductor cross-sections to enable charging power of up to 500 kW in Boost Mode, as well as continuous currents of 200 A or 375 A without liquid cooling. At 1,000 volts, this corresponds to 200 kW or 375 kW, respectively. For reliable electrical safety, the cables are equipped with a two-chamber sealing system that separates the DC+ and DC- lines, preventing moisture from entering safety-critical areas. The 375 A variants also feature integrated four-conductor measurement technology for legally compliant energy metering. The cable structure of the CCS Type 1 charging cables is identical to that of the NACS charging cables. This is intended to provide vehicle and charging infrastructure manufacturers with high platform compatibility and simplified engineering processes. However, one inconsistency remains: in the associated product list, the company lists a maximum charging power in Boost Mode of 700 kW (700 amperes) for both CCS Type 1 and NACS charging cables, instead of the 500 kW stated in the press release. A query has been submitted regarding this discrepancy, and Electrive will provide an update as soon as the response is received. However, this is not the end of the road. "Phoenix Contact's development teams are working daily on further product innovations for the North American Charging Standard," the company stated. The portfolio is set to expand by the end of 2026 to include liquid-cooled NACS charging cables for DC charging at over 600 A. 0 comments. about "Phoenix Contact unveils 500 kW charging cable for North America" Your email address will not be published.
