- Dispense medications and pharmaceutical preparations as prescribed by providers.
- Maintain computerized patient profiles and other accurate, updated records.
- Provide pharmaceutical information to hospital staff and patients.
- Evaluate medication orders for appropriate medication use.
- Prepare and distribute medication orders for inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary areas.
- Oversee the acquisition and disbursement of drugs and medications to offices, clinics, and other sites.
- Collaborate with pharmacy, nursing, administration, and medical staff to optimize the medication use process.
- Supervise pharmacy interns and technicians in duties related to their professional practice.
- Dispense medications for patient care to hospital staff and patients in appropriate forms.
- Determine the appropriateness of dosage forms based on a child's size and weight, and contact the physician when dosage appropriateness is uncertain.
- Prioritize medication orders appropriately.
- Use pharmacy automation, including discrepancy resolution and billing adjustments.
- Communicate with patient care service staff regarding patient care and medication therapy issues when assigned to a patient care service.
- Document interventions completed during patient care service.
- Serve as liaison between assigned patient care service areas and central pharmacy staff on patient care and drug distribution issues.
- Perform mathematical calculations to determine appropriate doses for different age groups or diagnoses.
- Prepare accurate medication labels using the proper labeling format.
- Prepare and assess age-appropriate medications for compounding, filling, and dispensing.
- Take appropriate steps to prevent clinical dispensing errors.
- Perform clinical pharmacy assessments involving electrolytes, laboratory data, and pharmacokinetics.
- Perform pharmacokinetic services, including drug level interpretation, drug dosing and scheduling recommendations, and nursing and pharmacy education.
- Perform pharmacy-related consultations based on provider orders.
- Maintain medication stock and monitor backorders and shortages.
- Ensure pharmacy equipment is operational and regularly maintained before use.
- Perform compounded non-sterile and sterile preparations when applicable.
- Follow current policies and procedures of ETCH and Pharmacy, along with state and federal laws.
- Report unusual inventory occurrences to the manager or lead pharmacist in their absence.
- Administer additional pharmacy services, including immunizations, wellness screenings, medication therapy management, and specialty medication management when applicable.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
