Senior Back-End Engineer

We seek a Senior Back-End Engineer with expertise in Python, Flask, and PostgreSQL. This role demands a mix of technical skill, creativity, and a strong commitment to testing, ensuring our applications are intuitive, performant, and reliable. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the back end systems that power our products. You will work closely with our front end developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scalable, and robust solutions.

THE DAY-TO-DAY

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and performant web applications.
• Act as a strong architectural contributor by partnering with tech leads to help shape the core platform design.
• Lead implementation of key product features.
• Collaborate with front end developers to integrate user-facing elements with back end APIs.
• Contribute to the strategic planning and direction of our technology and product development.
• Leverage AI and machine learning tools to enhance claims automation, fraud detection, and predictive analytics, improving operational efficiency and customer experience.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code ensuring high code quality through best practices.
• Ensure high standards for security, reliability, and maintainability.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and growth within the team.
• Identify and address technical challenges by proposing innovative solutions to optimize application performance and usability.
• Stay up to date on industry trends and technologies to ensure our applications remain at the forefront of innovation.

WHAT MAKES YOU QUALIFIED

• 6+ years of experience in back end development (preferably with startup experience) 
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with a strong portfolio of projects demonstrating expertise in the following technologies. 
• Python/Flask
• PostgreSQL and Google Datastore
• Postman and Pytest
• Strong experience with relational databases and data modeling.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful API design.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker.
• Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in fast-paced environments. 
• Passion for engineering and doing quality work.
• Experience working on a scrum team and understanding agile methodologies of software development.

You will report to the Engineering Tech Lead of the squad assigned. 

The annual compensation for this position ranges from $160,000-$180,000 USD. Individual compensation varies based on job-related factors, including business needs, experience, level of responsibility and qualifications.
