Requirements
  • A minimum of 2–5 years of experience in group benefits.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian benefits industry and group benefits financial underwriting requirements for all types of employee benefits plans.
  • Advanced competency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize competing demands to meet client and company needs.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to confidential information.
Responsibilities
  • Provide group benefits consulting support, including design, financial management, and ongoing servicing for existing clients and prospects.
  • Contribute to the design and management of group medical, dental, life, disability, and special risk benefits for clients.
  • Conduct annual renewal analysis and negotiations with carriers, and prepare client reports and presentations.
  • Prepare experience reports and budget projections, and review plan financial performance.
  • Conduct marketing activities, including preparing and submitting specifications, analyses, cost comparisons, recommendations on marketing responses, and marketing reports.
  • Gather data and determine the cost impact of plan design changes.
  • Monitor carrier and provider service standards.
  • Support the consulting team in preparing documents for client presentations and meetings.
  • Participate in industry conferences and seminars to remain current on industry trends and activities.
  • Build relationships with carriers and internal cross-functional teams.
  • Conduct plan design benchmarking studies.
  • Review benefits documentation, including contracts, booklets, collective agreements, and amendments, for accuracy.
  • Prepare and review master applications and other documentation for new sales submissions, and monitor implementation to ensure deadlines are met, questions are answered, and forms are completed by the effective date.
  • Prepare detailed plan design documents using Excel templates and update them as required.
  • Investigate and assist with resolving ad hoc claims and coverage issues for clients.
  • Market new group benefit opportunities to multiple insurance carriers.
  • Analyze carrier proposals for plan design alignment and pricing accuracy.
  • Prepare professional proposal packages and side-by-side comparisons for producer review.
  • Ensure all new business submissions are complete and meet underwriting requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with carrier marketing representatives and underwriters for new business.
  • Negotiate rates, plan adjustments, and underwriting exceptions when appropriate.
  • Follow up on pending quotes and manage carrier deadlines.
  • Maintain working relationships with multiple carrier partners.
  • Create polished, client-ready proposal presentations.
  • Develop contribution modeling and cost comparisons.
  • Ensure proposals clearly articulate the firm’s value proposition.
  • Collaborate with producers to understand prospect needs and competitive positioning.
  • Provide strategic input on carrier selection and funding strategies.
  • Track and manage new business pipeline activity.
