Senior Engineering Manager

Role Overview

As an Engineering Manager for the Alignerr engineering team at Labelbox, you will lead and grow a team responsible for building a scalable platform that supports the hiring, onboarding, and payment management of specialized experts who train and tutor AI.

In this role, you will manage the team’s daily operations, including sprint planning, daily standups, and one-on-one meetings, ensuring smooth execution and continuous progress. You will also contribute technical expertise in full-stack development, guiding the team in building robust and efficient systems.

Collaboration is key—you will work closely with other engineering teams to align on architecture, share best practices, and drive cross-functional initiatives. This role requires a strong foundation in full-stack frameworks (including backend development) and an understanding of AI systems to effectively lead the development of Alignerr applications.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (Advanced degree preferred).
• Proven technical leadership with 8+ years of experience in full-stack development (including backend) and 3+ years managing highly technical engineering teams.
• Strong software design and architecture skills, with experience in large-scale systems, API development, pub-sub frameworks, database schema design, and data migrations.
• Expertise in programming languages such as TypeScript, Java, and Python, with a disciplined approach to software development focused on testing and quality.
• Hands-on experience with cloud computing platforms and data processing technologies, ensuring scalable and efficient solutions.
• Project management expertise, including experience with agile methodologies and tools like Jira, demonstrating ownership of end-to-end project delivery.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective teamwork across engineering, product, and design teams.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, with a proactive, problem-solving mindset and a willingness to dive deep to drive results.
• Bonus: Experience with front-end frameworks like React, leveraging large language models (e.g., GPT-4, Gemini) for product development, and working with AI service APIs (e.g., text-to-speech, speech-to-text, translation, transcription).
