Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in Optometry required
  • License Optometrist required
  • 0-1 years related work experience required
  • Completion of an accredited Optometry training program
  • Current licensure for the State of Massachusetts
  • Massachusetts Controlled Substance license to use and prescribe diagnostic and therapeutic pharmaceutical agents in accordance with State regulations
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Responsibilities
  • Provides optometric evaluations with referral to an Ophthalmologist as necessary.
  • Performs comprehensive eye exams, reviewing patient's history, selecting and administering specialized tests and measurements, and administering non-medical/surgical treatments.
  • Designs and implements individual treatment programs and selects and applies corrective/therapeutic devices.
  • Provides emergency and triage ophthalmic care to patients, referring patients to an Ophthalmologist when the need for specialized care is appropriate.
  • Records evaluations, diagnoses and treatment provided in patient medical record.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the unit quality improvement program.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and efficient examination and technical environment.
  • Provides patient support and education.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary education programs of the unit/department and provides clinical precepting for new staff members, students, Residents and others.
  • Participates in formal and informal peer review processes to improve the overall quality of Optometry practice.
  • Provides leadership that supports hospital and departmental policies and goals, and influences change in the health care delivery system.
  • Interprets issues related to health care and its delivery for support staff, patients and the community.
  • Proposes and implements strategies to assist in the advancement of Optometric practice in the delivery of care to consumers.
