Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
  • Seven years of accounting experience, including significant leadership of month-end close processes, are required.
  • Expert knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles is required.
  • Extensive experience developing and monitoring complex corporate budgets is required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from market participants, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to present information to senior executives, market participants, public groups, and the Board of Directors.
  • Ability to perform advanced finance calculations, including interest, percentages, present value, and quick ratios.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Intermediate competency using the Windows operating environment, Microsoft Office applications, email, and internet programs.
  • Ability to work onsite in Rensselaer, New York several days per workweek and remotely on remaining days.
  • Ability to complete a drug screening and background check as a condition of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare journal entries with correct supporting documentation.
  • Prepare daily or monthly account reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare schedules for inclusion in the monthly financial report.
  • Cross-train accounting and senior accounting staff on areas of direct responsibility.
  • Assist Finance Management in developing administrative policies and procedures.
  • Suggest process enhancements and improvements to the internal control structure.
  • Lead and participate in internal and external audit coordination while maintaining confidentiality of designated information.
  • Assist with special projects and complete financial analysis and reporting as requested.
  • Coordinate activities required to develop NYISO’s annual budget.
  • Compile departmental budget requests and prepare analyses of budget trends and historical data.
  • Manage budget-versus-actual monitoring processes and obtain updated projections and trend data from department representatives.
  • Prepare budget-versus-actual status reports for Senior Management and Market Participants.
  • Prepare monthly project budget-versus-actual reconciliations and the resulting capitalized software entries.
  • Assist with month-end close and review prepaid and accrued expense schedules.
  • Coordinate preparation and external-auditor review of annual income tax returns, Char 500 filings, FERC reports, census reports, lobbying reports, and excise sales tax filings.
  • Lead monthly departmental budget-versus-actual reviews with management and senior leadership.
  • Record receipts of services in financial reporting software.
  • Serve as backup for financial reporting and budget-process responsibilities.
  • Coordinate month-end close activities and ensure account reconciliations are performed and reviewed.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for Finance Management review and perform variance analyses on key financial statement line items.
  • Research the implications of new accounting pronouncements on financial statements, systems, and procedures.
  • Develop recommendations for debt financings and interest-rate management.
  • Coordinate with Finance Management to negotiate financing terms with lenders.
  • Review loan and other financing documents and prepare information for financing approval petitions.
  • Monitor debt-covenant compliance and prepare cash-flow projections.
  • Lead activities required to complete the annual financial statement audit.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and analyses of tax-deferred 457(b) and benefit-plan accounts.
  • Prepare monthly benefit-plan reporting for management and senior leadership and semiannual reporting for the Board of Directors.
  • Lead annual external audits of pension, 401(k), and postretirement plans.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources on annual Department of Labor Form 5500 submission.
  • Oversee coordination and recording of fixed-asset schedules and compliance with fixed-asset policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • An MBA is highly desirable.
  • Certified Public Accountant certification is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Financials is desirable.
