Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and seven years of experience in information technology, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Five years working within a health, research, or academic institution is preferred.
  • Knowledge of data and information systems standards relevant to biomedical informatics and health systems.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain research databases to support clinical, public health, and behavioral studies.
  • Lead data management activities across the study lifecycle, including study setup, data collection, validation, and closeout.
  • Develop and implement data quality monitoring frameworks, including validation rules, edit checks, and discrepancy resolution processes.
  • Collaborate with investigators and research teams to translate study protocols into data collection tools such as case report forms and surveys.
  • Assist with onboarding and training study staff, including clinical coordinators and data managers, to ensure data integrity, data provenance, and associated documentation from initial capture through final dissemination and publication.
  • Manage and integrate data from multiple sources, including electronic data capture systems, external vendors, surveys, and device data.
  • Perform data cleaning, transformation, and preparation for statistical analysis.
  • Develop queries, reports, and dashboards using SQL, Python, R, or other statistical software.
  • Establish and maintain data governance standards, standard operating procedures, and documentation to ensure compliance and reproducibility.
  • Support regulatory compliance with applicable standards, including Good Clinical Practice, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, National Institutes of Health requirements, and institutional policies.
  • Train and support research staff on data systems, workflows, and best practices.
  • Identify data-related risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.
  • Lead efforts to ensure informatics systems support and advance the research objectives and mission of Emory University.
  • Work directly with researchers to document, analyze, and translate their needs into technical designs and informatics solutions.
  • Use standard software requirements and design practices to document informatics solutions supporting research activities across the university.
  • Lead project teams from the concept phase through closeout.
  • Apply biomedical informatics technical standards, methodologies, and principles to research-specific program needs, objectives, and outcomes.
  • Manage related systems projects from a client business perspective.
  • Monitor the delivery of ongoing information systems to the enterprise to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Perform related responsibilities as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with REDCap or similar electronic data capture systems; REDCap is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of research data workflows, including longitudinal and multi-site study designs.
  • Experience with data cleaning, validation, and quality assurance processes.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming or query language, such as R, SPSS, SAS, or Python.
  • Experience developing reports, dashboards, or data visualizations.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data standards, and documentation practices.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and timelines.
  • Experience in academic and healthcare research.
  • Exposure to data analytics or machine learning workflows.
