Requirements
  • Completion of high school or equivalent, plus 3 to 12 months of related experience.
  • Ability to type.

Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to clinical staff, patients, and families.
  • Manage front desk operations, including communication, coordination, and information flow.
  • Support department efficiency and patient throughput.
  • Collaborate with the Charge Nurse and care team to prioritize tasks and respond to real-time needs.
  • Answer phones in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families where appropriate.
  • Assemble patient medical records.
  • Update patient information in the hospital computer system.
  • Enter patient billing charges in the computer system.
  • Retrieve appropriate patient medical records and test results.
  • Send specimens to the Laboratory and perform order entry in the hospital computer system as needed.
  • Provide direct patient care under the direction of licensed personnel.
  • Participate in emergency care under the direction of a registered nurse or physician when required.
  • Consider patients' cultural beliefs and practices when providing care and use interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency.
  • Collaborate, cooperate, and communicate with other health care providers to ensure quality and continuity of care.
  • Provide care appropriate to the age groups regularly served and seek assistance for other age groups when needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and participate in hospital safety programs and initiatives.
  • Adhere to universal precautions.
  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement, performance improvement studies, and unit meetings.
  • Attend or participate in training programs to improve and augment skills and knowledge.
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining adequate supply levels as assigned.
  • Communicate surgical patients' arrival times through preoperative phone calls.
  • Process patients and their representatives upon arrival to the unit.
  • Assist with transporting patients leaving the area when necessary.
  • Input data worksheets.
  • Arrange ambulance transportation for patients when necessary.
  • Work effectively with physicians who use the unit.
  • Communicate with physicians' office staff when necessary.
  • Perform similar or related duties on an emergency basis or as designated by the department or supervisor.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
