Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration and Management or a related field, or eight years of experience in Medical Staff Services credentialing and operations as a substitute for the bachelor's degree.
  • CPCS or CPMSM certification is required within two years of hire.
  • Five years of experience interacting with hospital administration, Medical Staff Leadership, Medical Staff physicians, and credentialing activities, or two years of directly related medical staff support experience.
  • Significant experience using workflow systems and developing reports.
  • Experience with change management and streamlining workflow processes.
Responsibilities
  • Implement administrative and operational activities of the Medical Staff and its Leadership and operationalize the results of Medical Executive Committee and Credentials Committee discussions, recommendations, and actions.
  • Implement credentialing and privileging processes and procedures for physicians and allied health practitioners, including establishing qualifying criteria for initial appointment.
  • Formulate and revise application materials and conduct professional profiling for reappointment.
  • Assist with amendments to Medical Staff governance documents in coordination with legal counsel and Medical Staff Leadership to ensure regulatory, statutory, legal, and accreditation compliance.
  • Assist with physician investigations, notify practitioners of adverse action, and administer the Fair Hearing and Appeal Process as required.
  • Provide orientation and training, manage system upgrades and updates, and perform systems reporting to downstream systems from the credentialing database workflow system.
  • Create, implement, and reconcile clinical privileges for internal clinical service areas.
  • Plan, organize, lead, and direct Medical Staff Services credentialing team activities; address staffing needs; hire, train, evaluate, coach, and manage the team; and establish departmental human-resources goals and objectives.
  • Assist with preparing, tracking, and managing the fiscal budget and restricted account.
  • Maximize use of the credentialing database workflow system.
  • Educate team members on organizational objectives and their role in meeting those objectives.
  • Manage personnel functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and disciplinary actions for medical staff office personnel.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with organizational policies and applicable standards.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Operate with independent judgment on behalf of the Chief of Staff and Credentials Committee Chairman.
  • Coordinate with Health Information Management, Regulatory, Infection Control, Quality Teams, and other departments affecting the Medical Staff.
  • Participate in regional and national associations advancing medical staff organization, credentialing and privileging, and medical staff services.
  • Represent Orlando Health through community interaction and related organizations.
  • Continually update skills, knowledge, and certification; conduct literature reviews and research on changes in medical staff privileging; and propose enhancements to credentialing and privileging activities.
  • Participate in professional organizations, including FAMSS, for networking purposes.
