Requirements
  • BA Degree required
  • Minimum of two (2) years law firm experience clearing and resolving conflict issues
  • Strong Outlook, Excel and Word skills required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent judgement and the ability to form conclusions independently
  • Extremely detail oriented, organized and have great follow through skills
  • Ability to learn new software programs as needed
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Flexibility to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all Firm constituents
  • Experience with Intapp is a plus
Responsibilities
  • Review attorney guidelines, outside counsel policies and contracts received from Firm clients and provide direction and options regarding items of concern, including working with Firm professionals regarding compliance as it pertains to conflicts and engagement terms
  • Advise Firm professionals on resolution of conflicts of interest issues
  • Review RFPs and advise Firm timekeeping professionals and senior business development professionals on conflicts issues, proposed contract terms and compliance questions contained in them
  • Work with Firm professionals and the General Counsel’s office to process, examine, propose, modify and ultimately finalize waiver letters, disclosures, and engagement agreements on matter-by-matter basis
  • Communicate with and advise professionals, secretaries and other Firm personnel on established Firm policies and Procedures related to conflicts and Firm engagement agreements
  • Consult with the Conflicts Manager on procedural issues concerning Firm policies that affect the Conflicts Department
  • Supervise Conflicts Department staff in the Conflicts Manager’s absence
  • Prioritize requests and coordinate with other team members as appropriate to maintain appropriate flow of priority requests
  • Assist General Counsel’s office with other projects as needed

Microsoft's former chief privacy officer Julie Brill joins Manatt as national advisor

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips has appointed Julie Brill as a National Advisor in its Boston office. Brill formerly served as Chief Privacy Officer at Microsoft and as a Commissioner at the US Federal Trade Commission. At Microsoft, Brill led global advocacy on privacy, digital sovereignty and artificial intelligence whilst overseeing the company's regulatory strategy. During her FTC tenure, she addressed consumer privacy, data protection and financial fraud prevention. The appointment strengthens Manatt's capabilities in privacy, data security, AI governance and consumer protection. The firm recently launched its AI Consulting and Testing offering to help organisations deploy AI whilst meeting safety and compliance standards. Manatt expands appellate and litigation practice with former first-chair federal prosecutor

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips has appointed Zach Howe as a partner in its San Diego office to expand its appellate and litigation capabilities. An experienced appellate litigator, Howe has presented oral arguments over 50 times in various appeals courts, including the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Howe brings extensive trial experience, having conducted 11 jury trials and served as a first-chair federal prosecutor. His background includes clerking for the Fifth Circuit, working in Ohio's Solicitor General's Office, and serving as Assistant US Attorney and Chief of Staff for the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California.
