Requirements
  • B.S. Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Registered as Professional Engineer in State of Arizona or able to achieve registration within 6 months
  • At least three years project-related experience in soil mechanics, foundation design, pavement design, and slope stability
  • Knowledge of ASTM test methods
  • Must possess strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
  • Must possess the ability to apply mathematical and theoretical concepts to practical situations
  • Must possess a working knowledge of basic computer programs used in engineering design
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions
  • Must be able to discern from project specifications the tests required and the procedures to be followed
  • Must be able to interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Written – Handwriting must be legible; must be able to compose correspondence and prepare detailed reports of work activities completely and accurately
  • Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from co-workers and clients
Responsibilities
  • Drives to project locations and meetings
  • Performs a variety of geotechnical engineering activities in the field and in close proximity to heavy equipment to include: Geotechnical explorations, Boring layouts, Clearing utilities, Supervising drill rig operations, and Classifying soils
  • Performs and supervises engineering work relating to the design, construction, and operation of municipal and commercial projects
  • Assists in determining the scope of the work and in planning the work of a project team; revises as necessary to meet changing needs and requirements
  • Provides engineering expertise to other individuals and work groups within the firm as requested
  • Identifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities
  • Coordinates the work of engineers, technicians, and subconsultants
  • Establishes and maintains communications and interaction with clients including scheduling, problem resolution, invoicing, etc
  • Prepares reports and specifications, makes presentations as required, and obtains necessary client and agency approvals
  • Responsible in conjunction with Department Manager and other Project Managers for hiring and training of new and existing engineers, technicians, and staff
  • Provides administrative and technical support to other departments
  • Participates in identifying potential markets in which the firm could capitalize
  • Performs other related duties as required
