Requirements
  • The candidate must be licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri.
  • The candidate must maintain a current nursing license and required certifications.
  • The candidate must maintain current Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • The candidate must complete annual TB screening, influenza vaccination, ethics training, safety training, information security training, abuse and neglect training, blood-borne pathogens training when required, assigned coursework, annual competency, age/population-specific competency when applicable, orientation competency when applicable, and service-specific requirements.
  • The candidate must be able to work irregular hours and handle emergency and crisis situations.
  • The candidate must be able to occasionally stand or walk for prolonged periods and lift, position, push, or transfer patients.
  • The candidate must follow safety, infection-control, confidentiality, and hospital policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • The Registered Nurse assesses and reassesses patients, including age-appropriate admission, transfer, postoperative, and post-invasive-procedure assessments.
  • The Registered Nurse accurately documents assessment findings, patient education, discharge needs, ongoing evaluations, changes in condition, and care provided.
  • The Registered Nurse establishes, coordinates, evaluates, and modifies patient care plans based on assessment data, diagnoses, laboratory data, tests, procedures, physician orders, protocols, and standards of care.
  • The Registered Nurse identifies patient-care goals and formulates nursing interventions to achieve desired outcomes.
  • The Registered Nurse incorporates disease-specific evidence-based practices into nursing care plans and documentation.
  • The Registered Nurse provides, coordinates, and communicates patient care and completes accurate handoff communication reports.
  • The Registered Nurse administers and documents medications accurately according to policies and procedures.
  • The Registered Nurse monitors, maintains, and documents intravenous fluids and parenteral nutrition according to policies and procedures.
  • The Registered Nurse completes referrals and requests consultations for special patient or family needs, equipment, or information.
  • The Registered Nurse provides patient and family education and discharge planning.
  • The Registered Nurse clarifies and implements physician orders accurately and promptly and documents readback for telephone or verbal orders.
  • The Registered Nurse assists physicians with procedures and treatments or delegates tasks to Care Partners as appropriate.
  • The Registered Nurse recognizes changes in patient condition and clinical parameters, takes appropriate nursing action, and reports significant changes immediately.
  • The Registered Nurse assesses and manages restraint care, pain, and possible abuse or neglect, including documenting interventions and reporting concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • The Registered Nurse collaborates with health-team members, patients, families, physicians, medical staff, and other departments to coordinate care and resolve problems.
  • The Registered Nurse applies infection-control practices, standard precautions, hand hygiene, safe-patient-handling techniques, and hazardous-waste procedures.
  • The Registered Nurse maintains a safe, clean, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, employees, and coworkers.
  • The Registered Nurse participates in committees, shared governance, unit-based practice councils, nursing research, performance improvement, occurrence reviews, data collection, and quality-indicator activities.
  • The Registered Nurse orients or precepts new employees, serves as a resource to coworkers and the healthcare team, delegates care appropriately, and supervises and teaches students and new staff nurses.
  • The Registered Nurse provides timely, respectful, courteous, confidential, and patient-centered service.
  • The Registered Nurse uses resources efficiently, documents chargeable supplies and equipment, prioritizes responsibilities, and completes work on time.
  • The Registered Nurse provides age-appropriate care to adult and geriatric patients.
  • The Registered Nurse performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
