Requirements
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in an analytical or information specialist role within an academic, nonprofit, corporate, or consulting setting.
  • Deep understanding of statistical and predictive modeling concepts, machine-learning approaches, clustering and classification techniques, and recommendation and optimization algorithms.
  • Ability to solve business problems and find patterns and insights within structured and unstructured data.
  • Expertise analyzing large, complex, multi-dimensional datasets with a variety of tools.
  • Experience using statistical analysis environments such as R, MATLAB, SPSS, or SAS.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools such as Tableau.
  • Understanding of relational databases, warehouse design, and architecture principles.
  • Familiarity with big data frameworks such as Hadoop, Hive, or Spark.
  • Good scripting and programming skills, including SQL, Python, or Java.
  • Strong foundation in statistical, mathematical, and predictive modeling, as well as business strategy skills, to build algorithms and identify effective answers.
  • Familiarity with natural language processing, machine learning, conceptual modelling, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and hypothesis testing.
  • Ability to create examples, prototypes, and demonstrations to help management understand the work.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Proficiency in planning and setting meaningful objectives to meet office goals, articulating and promoting goals, and implementing strategic plans.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in operations research, applied statistics, data mining, machine learning, or a related quantitative discipline.
Responsibilities
  • Drive innovation and data exploration by applying business focus, analytical and problem-solving skills, and programming knowledge.
  • Develop recommendation engines or automated lead-scoring systems for prospect management strategy and marketing segmentation using machine-learning techniques.
  • Work with structured data and drive innovation in unstructured data architecture and analysis.
  • Use statistical programming languages such as R or Python and database querying languages such as PL/SQL.
  • Promote a big data environment through innovative approaches to knowledge development.
  • Identify relevant available data, including internal and external sources, and leverage new collection processes such as social media and web analytics.
  • Work with business users to define desired outcomes and business requirements for analyses, data visualization, and reporting.
  • Provide expertise on mathematical concepts for applied analytics and promote adoption of advanced analytics and data science across the Advancement Office.
  • Present findings and explain techniques to technical and non-technical audiences using data visualization, PowerPoint, and documentation.
  • Address daily operational questions, identify process-improvement areas, and collaborate on procedures and solutions that enhance customer service.
  • Lead projects and priorities for the data science team in partnership with the Executive Director and related teams.
  • Hire staff and oversee their professional development, including training, mentoring, and establishing goals, objectives, and metrics.
  • Manage staff performance and monitor activity and metrics.
  • Contribute to strategies and best practices for maintaining a comprehensive, reliable, and innovative data environment.
  • Review and recommend new technologies, vendor services, and information sources.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant industry trends and develop proficiency with advanced analytic and database tools, internet resources, in-house data, and other references.
