Requirements
  • Licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in Missouri.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Registered Nurse license in Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, or Wisconsin, or Registered Nurse license issued by a Compact State.
Responsibilities
  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessment and reassessment including age-appropriate admission or transfer assessment, obtaining input from family or guardian when appropriate, and documenting findings.
  • Establishes, coordinates and evaluates a plan of care based on assessment data, patient diagnosis, lab data, tests, physician orders, protocols and standards of care; identifies short and long term goals and formulates nursing interventions to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, plan of care, and changes in patient status; collaborates with health team members for coordination of daily plan of care and accurate handoff communication; administers and documents medications; monitors and documents IV fluids and parenteral nutrition; completes referrals; requests consultations; provides patient and family education and discharge planning; clarifies physician orders and implements them timely; assists physicians with procedures or delegates tasks; documents readback for telephone or verbal orders; recognizes changes in patient condition and takes appropriate nursing actions; involves family in care decisions; applies infection control practices.
  • Documents and communicates nursing care and changes in patient condition; performs ongoing evaluation of care effectiveness; evaluates patient and family education; modifies plan of care as indicated; reports significant changes to physician; identifies problems and pursues solutions; reports variations from care following occurrence reporting policy.
  • Provides specialized care to patients at high risk for injury including restraints management with alternatives where possible, pain management incorporating patient cultural beliefs, abuse assessment and reporting to safeguard patient safety.
  • Demonstrates accountability for professional practice by adhering to quality standards, maintaining currency in hospital information and policies, participating in staff meetings and committees, and adapting to changing work demands.
  • Relates to coworkers professionally and maintains collaboration; orients/precepts new staff; functions as a resource to patients, families and health care team; communicates plan of care clearly; supervises and teaches students or new staff as required; delegates appropriately.
  • Follows safety and infection control policies; maintains safe environment; adheres to hand hygiene; uses Safe Patient Handling techniques; completes mandatory annual requirements including licenses, certifications, and annual trainings; reports risks per policy.
  • Delivers service excellence by demonstrating care and courtesy, effective communication, confidentiality, teamwork, and cost-effective practices; ensures patient/family satisfaction and accuracy of handoff reports; contributes to department efficiency and quality indicators.
  • Incorporates performance improvement and evidence-based practice into practice; assists in development of unit goals; participates in data collection and evaluation of improvement results; participates in nursing research and department/hospital performance improvement; participates in occurrence reviews.
  • Provides age-appropriate care with knowledge of development; assesses age-specific data; involves family in decision making; communicates age-appropriate service; provides services for age groups routinely served.
  • Manages cost-effective services by using resources efficiently, documenting chargeable supplies, prioritizing tasks, and utilizing non-clinical time for professional activities.
