Requirements
  • A university degree or college diploma in a mental health and addiction related field, or a Personal Support Worker certificate with a minimum of two years of direct-service employment experience in mental health or addictions.
  • An Ontario driver's licence is preferred for most programs and required for shifts with the Community Homes for Opportunity Program.
  • A current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the last six months.
  • Ability to attend work regularly.
Responsibilities
  • Work with clients and motivate and support them toward achieving their goals.
  • Champion each client's capacity for independent community living.
  • Assist clients in maintaining suitable housing.
  • Facilitate and implement resident meetings.
  • Provide health teaching about mental illness and symptom management.
  • Provide crisis intervention and prevention.
  • Assist and coach clients in learning and managing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, daily chores, budgeting, and socialization.
  • Assist and teach meal planning, preparation, and other food-related activities.
  • Advocate for and support clients in accessing community resources.
  • Complete documentation related to clients.
  • Monitor and educate clients about medication, support medication routines, and complete medication reconciliation procedures where applicable.
  • Communicate effectively with the Director, managers, staff team, and external treatment teams about each client's progress.
  • Identify, promote resolution of, and manage emergency situations concerning clients, staff, and property.
  • Make decisions independently and collaboratively.
  • Assist clients with personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, and continence care.
  • Assist clients with elimination and toileting.
  • Assist clients with ambulation and positioning and provide safe lifts and transfers as necessary.
  • Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for clients.
Desired Qualifications
  • First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training.
  • Training in crisis intervention and crisis resolution, including the ASIST training program.
  • Experience in the mental health field.
  • Experience working in a residential setting.
  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric medications.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Knowledge of computerized documentation methods.
  • General health and safety knowledge.
  • Bilingual ability in both official languages of Canada.
