Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Chemical or Biological Sciences; or Military Education equivalent
- 8+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory, or 6 years with a Master's degree preferred
- 2 years of leadership experience preferred. Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience. Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
- Possession of a valid California CLS license and maintain throughout employment in position
- Advanced working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations
- Demonstrated outstanding professionalism, leadership, and communication skills
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership, and acts as a guide for the team
- Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals
- Focuses on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation(s) or data requires evaluation to assist in in decision making
- Develops and manages training plans
- Comprehensive knowledge of professional medical technology concepts, theories, principles and practices sufficient to plan and direct an educational program for students and continuing education programs for the staff
- Skill in using educational design, development, evaluation techniques and teaching methods
- Knowledge of the education program's affiliation agreements and accreditation requirements
- Advanced knowledge of a particular discipline or function, such as blood banking or molecular diagnostics, to be recognized as a technical authority for instruction
- Knowledge of training methods and teaching skills to conduct continuing education sessions for staff development. The training sessions may be technical in nature or may focus on teaching techniques so that staff can improve their technical skills
- Knowledge of the application of laboratory regulatory requirements i.e. CAP, CLIA, NYS, etc
- Drive a culture of accountability
- Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures
- Perform administrative duties; including, but not limited to, writing employee performance evaluations and reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs), protocols, and training metrics
- Coach and mentor trainers
- Lead by example to create an inclusive culture that values high engagement
- Conduct 1:1s for employee career development and coaching
- Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork
Desired Qualifications
- 2+ years of leadership experience
- Developed or coordinated an internal CGMBS/CLS training program
- Experience in a high volume clinical laboratory
- Teaching or coordinator experience as a Medical Technologist Educator
- Experience with laboratory automation
- Strong working knowledge in the areas of laboratory technology, management principles, laboratory information management system (LIMS), and workflow needs and capabilities
- Training in molecular biology techniques
- Proficient in Google Suite programs, such as Sheets, Gmail, Docs
