Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid Ohio driver's license is required.
  • Completion of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission police academy within three months of application is required.
  • The ability to obtain an Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission certificate upon hire is required.
  • The ability to acquire and maintain a Secretary of State Police Commission granted by Kettering Health Network Police Department is required.
  • The ability to successfully complete the annual Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission firearms qualification course is required.
  • The ability to obtain CPR certification upon hire is required.
  • Applicants must never have been charged with or convicted of a disqualifying offense under Ohio Administrative Code 3701-13-05.
  • Police officers must establish and foster effective working relationships with departments across the network, local law-enforcement agencies, and the community.
  • Police officers must communicate effectively with all levels of staff and the public, both in person and in writing, listen to opposing viewpoints, and articulate policy and vision.
  • The role requires education and experience in police functions, investigations, technology, and personnel management.
Responsibilities
  • Patrol the assigned medical center to protect lives and property, enforce laws, and prevent crime.
  • Maintain visibility to establish a police presence within medical centers and other assigned areas and facilities.
  • Receive and respond to a variety of complaints and handle emergency calls.
  • Interview complainants, suspects, and victims.
  • Make arrests and restrain suspects as required.
  • Intervene in and counsel parties to disputes.
  • Assist medical staff when requested.
  • Support organizational policies, procedures, mission, vision, values, and business objectives.
  • Participate in strategic planning and public relations.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through meetings and educational programs.
  • Identify assumptions in how problems or situations are defined and consider alternative ways to view or define them.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and problem-solving efforts.
  • Provide an environment in which employees feel respected and informed.
  • Work with hospital and network administration to improve facility operations and efficiency in response to information from referring physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Supervise the development of and maintain relationships with hospital staff.
  • Work with hospital administration and personnel to develop and coordinate communication materials and programs.
  • Communicate effectively with customers of varying cultures, ages, and backgrounds.
  • Use resources efficiently and complete work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Support community initiatives by joining and actively participating in civic organizations aligned with the network's mission and values.
  • Organize and promote professional relations events as needs are identified.
  • Attend departmental in-service and staff meetings.
  • Display team-oriented behavior and encourage teamwork in others.
  • Respond positively to direction from a supervisor and accept constructive criticism professionally.
