- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of a formal orthopedic training program is required, or equivalent certification from the American Society of Orthopaedic Professionals must be obtained within three months.
- National Board of Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists certification or registration by the American Society of Orthopaedic Professionals is preferred.
- Provide individualized skilled technical orthopedic care under written medical staff orders by applying, adjusting, maintaining, and removing specified orthopedic equipment, devices, and appliances.
- Instruct patients and their families on the use of orthopedic equipment, devices, and appliances.
- Assist medical staff in the orthopedic room, inpatient units, and/or operating room.
- Accept telephone orders from appropriate physicians within the scope of responsibility and according to hospital policies and procedures; accept verbal orders only in emergencies.
- Apply fracture braces when ordered in writing by a physician.
- Assist with office functions, including exam room turnover, data entry, appointment scheduling, and insurance pre-certifications.
- Work with medical staff, office staff, and administration to support a team-based approach to patient care and maintain cooperative interdepartmental relationships.
- Previous clinical experience is preferred.
