Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a formal orthopedic training program is required, or equivalent certification from the American Society of Orthopaedic Professionals must be obtained within three months.
  • National Board of Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists certification or registration by the American Society of Orthopaedic Professionals is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized skilled technical orthopedic care under written medical staff orders by applying, adjusting, maintaining, and removing specified orthopedic equipment, devices, and appliances.
  • Instruct patients and their families on the use of orthopedic equipment, devices, and appliances.
  • Assist medical staff in the orthopedic room, inpatient units, and/or operating room.
  • Accept telephone orders from appropriate physicians within the scope of responsibility and according to hospital policies and procedures; accept verbal orders only in emergencies.
  • Apply fracture braces when ordered in writing by a physician.
  • Assist with office functions, including exam room turnover, data entry, appointment scheduling, and insurance pre-certifications.
  • Work with medical staff, office staff, and administration to support a team-based approach to patient care and maintain cooperative interdepartmental relationships.
