Unto Labs develops a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain designed for scalability and developer accessibility. It includes ThruVM, a virtual machine built on the open RISC-V instruction set, allowing developers to write smart contracts in languages not tied to crypto-specific code and applying high-performance computing ideas to boost throughput. The team carries experience from Solana and Firedancer, and combines a ground-up blockchain design with a RISC-V VM to improve speed and developer usability compared with existing chains. Its goal is to support millions of daily active users with an efficient, scalable platform for decentralized applications.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • RISC-V adoption accelerates, with SP1 achieving 10x faster proving times.
  • Firedancer hits 1M TPS, enabling ThruVM similar benchmarks by Heeger.
  • $14.4M funding from Framework Ventures doubles team to 10 engineers.

What critics are saying

  • Solana's Firedancer delivers 1M+ TPS, surpassing Thru's unproven claims.
  • Sui's RISC-V VM captures non-crypto developers before Thru launch.
  • $14.4M burns in 18 months without mainnet revenue, forcing downround.

What makes Unto Labs unique

  • ThruVM uses RISC-V architecture for non-crypto developer accessibility.
  • Liam Heeger applies Firedancer expertise to high-performance Thru blockchain.
  • Built from ground up with high-performance computing for scalability.
