Responsibilities
  • Performs comprehensive history and physical exams.
  • Makes appropriate orders for diagnostic testing.
  • Conducts evidence-based diagnosis and management.
  • Prescribes appropriate medications and therapeutic interventions.
  • Adheres to professional guidelines and best practices, including those created at the University of Chicago Medicine.
  • Performs health maintenance and prevention.
  • Assesses, manages, and makes appropriate referrals of students with mental health problems within the usual and customary scope of primary care.
  • Completes timely documentation and dictation of patient encounters; provides patient education in the context of primary care.
  • In a dyad model, collaborates with and coaches advanced practice providers.
  • Participates in departmental and University activities as assigned.
  • Participates in off-campus programs.
  • Formulates a plan of care and educational needs in collaboration with the patient, family, physician, nursing staff, and other members of the health care team.
  • Maintains patient records.
  • Performs necessary record-keeping, analysis, and reporting of clinical outcomes.
  • Assists the care team with patient counseling in adapting to and coping with their changing health status.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Serve as a collaborating physician for APNs and mid-level providers in the clinic, participate and contribute to Accreditation-related tasks, including policy development, QI initiatives, and peer review projects as required by the Medical Director. Support the transition of the new Medical Director as needed.
  • Collaborates with other health professionals to provide comprehensive primary care for the entire population of University students. Recommends medication for students with complex health problems using best practices within primary care.
  • Uses specialized medical knowledge and expertise to perform physical exams. Places orders for diagnostic testing. Interprets health issues and determines evidence-based diagnoses and methods of management. Assesses the need for and recommends medication appropriate medications.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school.
  • Timely and complete satisfaction of disciplinary and State continuing education requirements.
  • At least seven years of primary care experience.
  • Experience working with a college-age population.
  • Eligibility for a current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Illinois.
  • Completion of an accredited residency in a primary care specialty (Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine).
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in the appropriate primary care specialty.
  • DEA registration.
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Maintenance of board certification and up-to-date medical skills.
  • General knowledge of the developmental and maturity challenges of adolescents and young adults.
  • High level of sensitivity in situations of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Qualified to have an appointment as a Clinical Associate in the applicable specialty department.
