Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are required.
  • General computer experience and the ability to type fluently, accurately, and quickly are required.
  • The employee must be able to sit or stand for up to 8 hours per day, walk frequently, push up to 250 pounds in a wheelchair, and occasionally carry or lift up to 15 pounds.
  • The employee must work at least one shift per week on days or evenings and at least 16 hours per month.
  • The employee must cross-train in all applicable areas of the location or region.
Responsibilities
  • Correctly identify and validate patients in the hospital information system to maintain accurate electronic medical records, and report possible identity theft situations for escalation.
  • Maintain knowledge of network policies regarding patient identification, including Mark for Merge, Chart Corrections, and Patient Look-Up.
  • Complete patient pre-registration and post-registration, including demographics, emergency contacts, diagnostic orders, primary care and referring providers, diagnoses, insurance and guarantor verification, real-time insurance eligibility, point-of-service cash collections, and registration-related work queue errors.
  • Greet and direct patients and visitors, and monitor and enforce visitor policy when applicable.
  • Answer internal and external calls and provide information about the facility and its services.
  • Promote use of the MyChart patient portal and patient self-service capabilities.
  • Oversee and assist patients with Welcome Kiosk and On My Way technology, including monitoring arrivals and patients' journeys throughout their visits.
  • Contact practices or the Network Prior Authorization Department to obtain required insurance referrals and pre-certifications before service.
  • Obtain medical license numbers, National Provider Identifier numbers, and UPINs for new provider entries to support accurate routing and claim submission.
  • Communicate and coordinate with clinical, diagnostic, practice, and revenue cycle departments to support the patient experience, clean claim submission, and payment for services.
Desired Qualifications
  • A certificate or degree in a health care-related field is preferred.
  • An insurance background is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Previous medical administrative experience or health care-related education courses is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Epic health information system is preferred.
  • Additional sign-up hours at nearby locations may be available after training.
