Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred, must obtain within 8 years of hire
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan
  • BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
  • Critical care or Advanced Cardiac Life Support as well as other certifications may be required for some Registered Nurses, unit specific
  • Bronson South Haven Specific: Effective July 1, 2017 all new hires are expected to successfully obtain their BSN within 8 years of hire date
  • Bronson South Haven Specific: Emergency Department: SALT triage, ESI Triage, and NIH Stroke Scale to be completed within 90 days of hire date
  • Bronson South Haven Specific: Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Trauma Nursing Core Course within 6 months of hire date
  • Bronson South Haven Specific: Special Care Unit: Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification within 6 months of hire
  • For Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby/Antepartum at BMH & BBC: Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification through PQF or NCC required within 6 months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring
  • Current driver's license in the state of Michigan and proof of insurance required
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment
  • Must be able to communicate verbally, in writing and electronically
  • Standards of Practice are followed with detailed nursing responsibilities

Responsibilities
  • Utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation and evaluation to manage care delivery
  • Coordinating the care provided by other professionals
  • Delegating selected acts, tasks or functions within the scope of professional nursing practice
  • Providing selected aspects of physical care as appropriate to patient acuity
  • Documenting and communicating patient responses to care, resources usage, and anticipated needs during each tour of duty
  • Direct patient care responsibilities including administering prescribed medication and treatment in accordance with nursing techniques and policies
  • Developing and implementing patient education plans
  • Coordinating discharge planning for outcomes not achieved and continuing care
  • Participating in quality improvement activities and applying results to nursing practice
  • Maintaining knowledge and competency through ongoing education and professional development
  • Collaborating with patients, families, and other health disciplines to achieve outcomes
  • Integrating ethical provisions in practice and advocating for patients
  • Integrating research findings into practice and participating in research-related activities as appropriate
  • Assigning or delegating tasks based on patient needs and safety considerations
  • Providing leadership in the professional practice setting and contributing to professional development of peers
  • Interpreting procedure cards, preparing case carts, and ensuring availability of supplies for procedures (Scrub RN responsibilities)
  • Monitoring patient condition changes and communicating with the team about patient status
  • Performing on-call duties as assigned and supporting cross-service scrub capabilities
  • Completing department-specific certifications and training within required timelines
