Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking a Materials Engineering Intern to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. The preferred candidate is currently enrolled in undergraduate or master’s studies focused on materials, chemistry, engineering or related field.
Job Duties:
- Work closely with and under the direction of engineers to execute planned experimentation aimed at optimizing current sulfide solid-state electrolytes.
- Assist engineers in data acquisition and analysis.
- Perform regular and required housekeeping.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Comfort with safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment is required.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience in material characterization techniques including rheology, SEM/EDS, DSC/TGA, XRD, FTIR, and EIS is a plus.
- Experience in synthetic chemistry is a plus.
- Statistical background is necessary. Foundation in statistical design (D.O.E.) with relevant software experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of Li-ion battery materials optimization and synthesis is a plus.
- Ability to work 15-29 hours per week on-site during spring 2025 term
Education and Experience:
- Pursuing a materials engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or related degree from an accredited college/university; minimum of junior level of bachelor’s program preferred.
- Experience with battery materials, material science, and data analysis is a plus.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.
- Ability to work in gloveboxes and dry rooms.
Hourly Compensation: $22-$25/hour
Schedule: 15-29 hours per week during spring 2025
