Requirements
  • Three years of verifiable experience as a maintenance estimator or scheduler, an equivalent facilities maintenance role, or a maintenance planner for construction or facilities/equipment maintenance; alternatively, three years as a supervisor of journey-level workers in a related construction or facilities/equipment maintenance field.
  • Four years of verifiable journey-level experience in a construction or facilities/equipment maintenance-related field may be accepted instead.
  • Completion of a minimum four-year Building and Trades certified apprenticeship program and two years of journey-level experience in construction or facilities/equipment maintenance may be accepted instead; an apprenticeship certificate must be submitted.
  • For the qualifying experience pathways, at least one year of experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System program is required.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
  • Knowledge and ability to use a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Ability to analyze and summarize forms, schedules, work progress reports, instruction checklists, preventive maintenance/job plans, management reports, key performance indicators, and asset history reports; maintain and update asset records and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Knowledge of general building, industrial facility, utility asset, and public right-of-way construction and maintenance; grounds maintenance procedures; building materials; instrumentation and controls; and mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of planning, estimating, and scheduling techniques related to building, industrial facility, grounds, utility asset, distribution/transmission asset, and public right-of-way construction.
  • Ability to use good judgment when making decisions about planning and detailing maintenance work.
  • Ability to express information clearly and concisely in writing and verbally.
  • Applicants must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing when applicable to the stated safety-sensitive classification requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Investigate and evaluate departmental requests for maintenance and repair, including on-site inspections of machinery and structures.
  • Prepare cost estimates for maintenance and repair activities and develop and maintain lists of materials and labor costs for recurring maintenance jobs.
  • Plan maintenance and repair schedules for routine and preventive maintenance to ensure uninterrupted system operation.
  • Develop new preventive maintenance procedures to address changes in system operations, use patterns, and maintenance and materials technologies.
  • Report difficult maintenance situations to the supervisor and recommend courses of action.
  • Prepare statistical reports on maintenance and repair activities.
  • Supervise subordinate personnel such as estimators, schedulers, and clerical staff by planning, assigning, coordinating, and directing work assignments when required.
  • Maintain and evaluate maintenance-history records to assess equipment and system performance, work performed, failure frequency, and labor and materials costs.
  • Complete related duties as required.
