Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related science field is required.
  • At least 6 years of relevant work experience with 21 CFR 210 and 211 in an FDA-regulated pharmaceutical or medical device industry is preferred.
  • Experience with equipment qualification, software validation, test method validation, or process validation is preferred.
  • Experience authoring standard operating procedures, change controls, corrective and preventive actions, deviations or nonconformances, and laboratory investigations is preferred.
  • Understanding of the validation and technology transfer process, with experience writing procedures and reports and executing laboratory tests, is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel is preferred.
  • Strong technical writing skills are preferred.
  • The employee must be able to talk and hear; frequently stand, walk, use hands, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The employee must have close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, the ability to adjust focus, and the ability to work under regulated radiation-exposure conditions with required monitoring.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise the daily activities of chemists and business support staff performing raw-material, drug-substance, in-process, and drug-product testing.
  • Serve as the quality lead for the quality control chemistry team during weekend shifts when management presence is limited.
  • Identify quality events and work remotely with quality assurance and quality control management to handle each event according to site standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee chemists and contractors operating analytical equipment, performing analytical tests, interpreting results, and documenting findings according to standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Train, assess, and coach team members in laboratory procedures, techniques, and career development.
  • Lead and facilitate analytical-instrument qualification, compendial analytical-method verification, and stability studies.
  • Perform technical reviews of investigations, deviations, and corrective and preventive actions.
  • Oversee and author written procedures and other documents, including amendments.
  • Lead team members through the analytical method transfer process.
  • Ensure results meet acceptable test parameters and report abnormal analytical-test findings to the Quality Control Chemistry Manager.
  • Ensure employees follow guidelines, required testing is completed, and associated records are evaluated.
  • Assist in recommending approval or rejection of starting materials, intermediates, and finished products.
  • Develop and apply practices that enable the laboratory to meet customer and regulatory standards cost-effectively.
  • Conduct or assist with laboratory investigations of discrepancies, resolve problems, and work with management to implement corrective or preventive actions promptly.
  • Remain current on chemistry developments through technical literature and technical meetings.
  • Recommend improvements to laboratory performance to other members of management.
  • Ensure proper laboratory hygiene and monitor storage conditions for laboratory materials and products.
  • Execute or participate in internal and external laboratory quality audits as directed by management.
  • Assist with training and development of laboratory personnel.
  • Work with operations to interpret and implement Quality Management System requirements consistently.
  • Ensure work follows company safety, quality, ethics, environmental management, and strategy policies.
  • Produce and review personal development plans for team members and provide appropriate training.
  • Create analytical-equipment qualification protocols, coordinate timely equipment delivery to quality-control rooms, oversee protocol execution, and ensure completion of installation, operational, and qualification tasks.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and site actions are completed effectively and promptly and that escalation processes raise quality issues to appropriate management.
  • Set team priorities, coordinate work activities with first shift and facility or department goals, and support achievement of team commitments.
  • Partner with leadership on decisions affecting subordinates and align individual goals with functional goals.
  • Recognize development needs and capability gaps, arrange assignments to address them, and provide direction in creating development plans.
  • Provide input to succession planning for the work area.
  • Work within budgetary and financial objectives set by the manager.
  • Anticipate business challenges, identify quality and service-oriented customer solutions, and share key learnings.
  • Encourage subordinates to pursue operational excellence and serve as a role model for innovative, quality-focused work.
  • Build cross-functional relationships, mentor and empower team members, and create alignment through clear communication.
  • Serve as a culture champion at the Indianapolis manufacturing site and support its workplace culture and customer service.
  • Perform other assigned job duties.

Cardinal Health forecast fiscal 2027 profit between $12.40 and $12.60 per share, exceeding analyst expectations of $12.04, driven by strong demand for specialty drugs. The US drug distributor's shares rose over 4% in premarket trading. The company's fourth-quarter adjusted profit of $2.91 per share beat estimates of $2.42. However, total revenue of $63.67 billion missed expectations of $65.03 billion. Cardinal Health is benefiting from rising demand for biosimilars and high-margin medicines treating cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and autoimmune diseases. Its Pharmaceutical and Specialty Solutions unit saw sales increase 6% to $55.4 billion. Last month, Cardinal purchased AdaptHealth's diabetes business and Strive Medical for approximately $360 million combined. The company also announced $1 billion in planned share repurchases for fiscal 2027.

Cardinal Health has agreed to acquire multi-specialty supply company Strive Medical and AdaptHealth's diabetes business for a combined $360 million in cash. The drug distributor said the acquisitions will expand its at-home solutions business, which delivers medical supplies directly to patients. The deals build on Cardinal's recent investments in home care services. The company's at-home unit generated $1.7 billion in revenue during its third quarter this year, helping grow profit by 34% year over year. Cardinal expects the acquisitions to be earnings accretive within a year of closing. AdaptHealth's diabetes unit serves over 225,000 patients annually, primarily delivering continuous glucose monitors.
