Requirements
  • Graduate from a Surgical Technologist program, or qualify through equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain a sterile field for surgical procedures.
  • Prepare surgical suites and assist surgeons during surgical procedures in the first scrub role.
  • Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures and anticipate the surgeon's needs.
  • Don operating room attire and personal protective equipment.
  • Gather, check, and open supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
  • Perform the surgical scrub and don the gown and gloves.
  • Set up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications or solutions.
  • Perform initial and additional instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator.
  • Assist team members with gowning and gloving.
  • Assist with patient draping and establishment of the sterile field.
  • Participate in surgical site and patient verification during the time-out procedure.
  • Secure tubing, cords, and other sterile accessories.
  • Prepare and anticipate additional instrumentation, equipment, and supplies during procedures.
  • Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
  • Measure and pass medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions used during procedures.
  • Hold retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon.
  • Sponge or suction the operative site.
  • Apply electrocautery to clamps or forceps on bleeding sites.
  • Cut suture material as directed by the surgeon.
  • Coordinate the camera and instruments during endoscopic surgery as directed by the surgeon.
  • Maintain sterile technique throughout procedures.
  • Prepare sterile dressings and immobilization devices.
  • Prepare and pass specimens as appropriate.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Assist with terminal cleaning of the operating room.
  • Assist in preparing the operating room for the next patient.
  • Participate in debriefing and quality-improvement practices.
  • Assist with reprocessing and sterilization of instruments.
  • Assist with supply and equipment par levels.
  • Assist endoscopy patients with endoscope setup.
  • Assist with specimen retrieval at the provider's direction.
  • Perform point-of-use cleaning.
  • Assist with endoscope cleaning and high-level disinfection.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist.
