Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of electrical design experience for medical devices.
  • At least 10 years of experience managing an engineering team.
  • Direct knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards in the medical device industry.
  • Experience leading complex research projects from concept to completion.
  • Deep knowledge of electrical products, components, design methodology, and electronic design automation software.
  • Experience leading internal and external teams to deliver complex electromechanical medical devices compliant with United States and international safety and electromagnetic compatibility requirements, including IEC 60601 and RTCA DO-160.
  • Class II or III medical device experience under IEC 60601.
  • Hands-on experience designing, testing, and formally verifying digital and analog systems, including electrostimulation or electrocardiogram monitoring, microprocessor-based electromechanical designs, analog front-end data acquisition, motor control, communications interfaces, power supplies, and battery controller design.
  • Experience with Altium Designer, Cadence OrCAD, and Allegro PCB Designer.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and drive results autonomously.
  • Ability to work in an in-office environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Define the long-range strategy and capability roadmap for Electrical Engineering within Research and Development, including the skills, tools, and infrastructure needed to support the company’s growth.
  • Lead architecture, design, and testing for next-generation Organ Care Systems, ensuring each design meets project requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Provide leadership, oversight, and technical guidance to internal and external design teams across new product development.
  • Apply a hands-on approach to electrical engineering strategy, prototyping, and design for new products and products already in the field.
  • Lead the team through definition of electrical design requirements and specifications for new products.
  • Own documentation practices, including cross-functional design reviews, theory of operation, design failure mode and effects analysis, and complete release packages containing fabrication and assembly drawings, Gerber packages, and source files.
  • Own the verification strategy for electrical subsystem designs, including protocol and report generation across internal and external test laboratories.
  • Lead support for contract manufacturers supplying printed circuit board assemblies and components.
  • Set and monitor department goals aligned with corporate and project objectives, and own project planning, budgeting, and scheduling for the team.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, Regulatory, and Clinical teams to keep programs moving.
  • Ensure designs meet safety and electromagnetic compatibility requirements, including IEC 60601 and RTCA DO-160.
  • Build and develop a high-performing Electrical Engineering organization.
  • Manage the Electrical Engineering department, including performance reviews and professional development planning.
  • Oversee design contractors, co-ops, and interns as needed.
