Responsibilities
  • Oversees and guides laboratory staff in recommendations of changes to protocols to improve validity and accuracy.
  • Makes recommendations for acquisition of new equipment and oversees validation and implementation of new equipment and protocols.
  • Ensures the work area is maintained in a safe and uncluttered environment and always maintains accountability for the preparation and maintenance of inspection readiness.
  • Coordinates research activities with Research Staff.
  • Responds to Safety Events and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate cross talk between project members of ongoing projects between basic/translational research and clinical research for ongoing collaborations.
  • Assist Dr. Prins with calendar management.
  • Oversees the flow of research projects from planning to submission through implementation and closeout. Responsibilities include but are not limited to operations management, quality assurance, and regulatory oversight.
  • Ensures that appropriate regulatory approvals are obtained for all research activities as needed (IRB and IACUC), materials transfer/data agreements properly executed.
  • Maintains timelines, track deliverables, and support milestone achievement across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Collaborates with Department of Medicine centralized and divisional teams to successfully complete all stages of grant preparation, submission, and post-award.
  • Works closely with other institutions to submit grant proposals as appropriate.
  • Works closely with leadership in developing, modifying, and monitoring the achievement of long-term goals and objectives and in executing process improvement.
  • Works closely with leadership to address current and future challenges.
  • Works with research team to maintain organization of data and helps upload data into appropriate electronic biorepositories to comply with NIH-mandated requests
  • Work with PI to develop documents for large, programmatic grant applications and their progress reports.
  • In collaboration with PIs, responsible for collecting data and analyzing data, writing, and submitting required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports (i.e., IRB) for studies under their purview, as well as assist with revisions and submissions of manuscripts generated for their assigned portfolio.
  • Ensures that information is entered correctly into databases and ensures that samples are stored appropriately.
  • Provides statistical analysis of data using statistical software and generates graphical representations of data as requested by leadership.
  • Assists leadership in reviewing, analyzing, interpreting, summarizing, formatting, editing, and preparing tables, graphs, for grant applications/progress reports, publications, and presentations.
  • Coordinates with local, national, and international collaborators to ensure successful research endeavors.
  • Coordinates with Gazes and i3 investigators for progress reports for annual meeting and annual report that will be sent to staff and MUSC leader shiper
  • Supervises any research staff employed by the division with a focus on Dr. Prins’s Lab to include delegation of responsibilities and performance management.
  • Conducts employment interviews and participates in the selection of new employees.
  • Supervises and trains laboratory staff, medical students, graduate students, residents, fellows, post-doctoral research fellows, and volunteers.
  • Direct supervisor of laboratory staff including approving PTO and conducting yearly evaluations.
  • Monitors, regulates, and adjusts workflows to ensure tasks are completed on time.
  • Oversees the financial aspects of lab operations including monitoring expenses and budgets, ordering, and maintaining appropriate inventory of supplies, and providing recommendations for capital and operational budgets.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical or translational research program management, preferably in academic medicine.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently, adapt to evolving priorities, and maintain professionalism across multiple collaborations.
  • Familiarity with grant funding mechanisms (e.g., NIH, foundations, industry) and financial management processes preferred.
