Requirements
  • Current University of Virginia student eligible for student employment.
  • Frequent lifting of boxes and oversize items weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Routine use of ladders to retrieve and reshelve materials.
  • Attention to detail and manual dexterity for careful handling of fragile materials.
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
  • Ability to work in an environment maintained below 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Computer and communication skills.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check before employment.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Instruction Librarian/Archivist at Special Collections to prepare for class and group visits to the library.
  • Create request slips for materials.
  • Pull and reshelve materials from the closed stacks for classes.
  • Advise on the selection of materials for classes when needed.
  • Assist Special Collections staff in setting up materials.
  • Complete training in the handling of rare materials and use of library software.
Desired Qualifications
  • Federal Work-Study eligibility is preferred.
