In collaboration with the RTC Coordination Nurse, the RTC Specialist supports the continuum of care by assisting in the coordination of consults and transfers of patients within our region. The RTC Specialist is accountable for obtaining necessary patient demographic and insurance management data sufficient to facilitate preadmission functions and support financial clearance. The RTC Specialist is responsible for pre-admission functions within the network including patient identification, patient type assignment, preadmission visit creation and insurance authorization for transfer.  The RTC Specialist works in multiple systems across the UVM Health Network to assist with bed management and patient flow throughout the Network. The RTC Specialist participates in performance improvement standards and projects.

Education:

• Associate’s degree is required. 
• In some cases a combination of 2 or more years of relevant experience and education may be substituted.

Experience:

• Experience in a fast-paced customer service or medical environment such as patient scheduling and computerized data entry. 
• Familiarity with multi-line telephones, e-mail and current computer applications.
• Three years customer service, billing or admissions experience in a health care environment is preferred.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology.
• Understanding of CPT & ICD10 coding practices.
• Familiarity with Medical Necessity (InterQual or Milliman) criteria is preferred.
• Understanding of commercial and government insurance regulations is preferred.
