  • A Master's Degree is required.
  • Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (P-LPC) licensure is required post-hire within 90 days.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensure is required within four years of hire.
  • The candidate must complete the required 18-month post-master's degree practice period and successfully pass the Clinical Mental Health Counselor Exam to obtain Mississippi LPC Board licensure.
  • The role requires occasional bending, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, crouching or stooping, kneeling, pushing or pulling, reaching, sitting, and twisting, as well as frequent standing and walking.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct and document detailed psychosocial assessments and evaluations to interpret the patient's or family's social, environmental, and medical needs.
  • Meet the needs of transplant applicants and donors and conduct level II evaluations to determine mental illness or intellectual-disability discharge needs.
  • Document according to departmental guidelines and standards, prepare reports, and maintain records as needed.
  • Reassess, monitor, and document patient and family needs and interventions.
  • Obtain medical coverage by securing the appropriate documentation and materials.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care and recommend alternative plans as needed.
  • Provide or supervise plan-of-care interventions, including resource and referral assistance, crisis intervention, prevention, education, patient advocacy, bereavement, therapy, and counseling.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team and involve patients and families in developing and implementing plans.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to facilitate interdisciplinary patient care and positive outcomes.
  • Recommend referrals and allocate community resources as appropriate.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives, including data collection and analysis.
  • Develop and participate in continuing education programs.
  • Develop and edit policies and procedures and serve on committees.
  • Prepare and maintain applicable reports and records.
  • Attend and participate in staff, committee, department, and other administrative meetings as directed.
  • Maintain working knowledge of and liaison with community agencies and participate in area health and social-services activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant medical and legal issues affecting patient care, including advance directives and child and elder abuse.
  • Keep current with social work and healthcare developments and enhance job-related knowledge.
  • Act as a liaison to financial counseling to assist patients with applications for state assistance, charity care, and other programs.
