Requirements
  • An Associate’s degree in a Medical, Secretarial, or related field and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional presentation.
  • Demonstrated customer relations skills.
  • Ability to multitask, manage many details accurately, work under pressure, and maintain a professional attitude.
Responsibilities
  • Manage medication coordination and remove barriers that prevent patients from receiving their medications.
  • Communicate with prescribers’ offices to obtain information needed to submit prescriptions to patients’ insurance for approval, including prior authorization.
  • Help enroll patients in financial assistance programs and arrange timely medication delivery.
  • Facilitate communication among patients, pharmacists, insurance providers, and staff to ensure coordinated care.
  • Maintain expertise in patient assistance programs, grants, foundations, and manufacturer coupons relevant to high-cost drugs.
  • Analyze patients receiving high-cost medications for potential participation in patient assistance programs and identify the best options based on insurance, disease state, income, and other circumstances.
  • Coordinate with patients and families to obtain required information and present patient assistance options.
  • Enroll patients in patient assistance programs, follow up on application status, maintain documentation, submit required treatment-period documentation, and manage program-specific payment processes.
  • Discuss patient assistance eligibility with patients and families when coverage changes during treatment.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for patients, providers, and staff on financial assistance resources, and collaborate with social services and case management.
  • Coordinate medication and supply preparation with pharmacy staff to ensure timely delivery.
  • Troubleshoot insurance issues with pharmacists, physicians, and staff to prevent treatment interruptions.
  • Follow up with patients regarding safe and effective medication use, document medication-related problems, and triage issues to the pharmacist when appropriate.
  • Coordinate special orders and low-volume medication ordering with the inventory manager.
  • Track prescribing trends and coordinate stock changes with the inventory manager.
  • Call patients to bill prescriptions and arrange deliveries.
  • Facilitate medication adherence by ensuring patients receive prescribed medications promptly.
  • Provide customer service through the Pharmacy Call Center and triage patient calls to the appropriate party.
  • Answer incoming calls promptly.
  • Monitor and reconcile patient charge accounts monthly.
  • Report errors through the RL Solutions hospital error reporting system and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with prescription audits and complete required patient documentation on time.
  • Assist with training new team members in the designated clinical area.
  • Work with prior authorization coordinators, office staff nurses, and other patient care staff to ensure policy requirements are met before requesting prior authorization.
  • Initiate, document, and track prior authorizations to improve patient experience, ensure compliance, and prevent treatment interruptions or delays.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completed ASHP-accredited training or equivalent experience as a pharmacy technician.
  • Certification from a nationally accredited pharmacy technician certification program, currently PTCB, and maintenance of ongoing education requirements.
